I'm just spitballing, but "Kicks" was a cover of the original 1966 Paul Revere & The Raiders recording, so different publishing from that, maybe?
CHEERS! :)
It's neither here nor there, but I recall reading that one of the Jerry Lee Lewis numbers ("Whole Lotta Shakin" I think!) was edited out of the Blu-ray edition of "33 1/3rd Revolutions Per Monkee" due to clearance issues. It is intact (As is The Beatles' "Good Morning, Good Morning" wake up...
Especially considering the no frills BATMAN '66 complete TV series Blu-ray set has double the number of episodes of THE MONKEES (120 vs 58!); all of the same disc based special features as the limited edition set; plus, if anything, the BATMAN '66 TV series had far more clearance issues that...
I have that no frills Italian BATMAN TV series Blu-ray set. The episodes look fantastic!
Perhaps somebody at Rhino or Warner Music might be the ones to ask about any possible future pared down Monkees Complete Series Blu-ray set? Even a release consisting of the first 7 Blu-ray discs (With...
Also, as a re-release, neither Micky nor Mike would likely be asked to provide any commentary tracks, or be interviewed; plus as Micky Dolenz mentioned, they don't really earn anything from THE MONKEES TV show revenues.
Still, it would be great to have the option of purchasing the...
So, the commentary tracks are on the Blu-ray version, as well? Some tinkering must have been done with the added commercials, and minus the Jerry Lewis "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" track, then.
The Micky Dolenz commentary is definitely what I'd call...interesting! He certainly makes no...
Perhaps also noteworthy, is the two separate DVD commentary tracks for 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE (1969) by Micky Dolenz and Brian Auger.
Indeed, some of the bits from the above special don't hold up terribly well, especially with repeat viewings. For instance, the ending can be best...
Thank you for your exhaustive comparisons, Mark!
This is quite a mixed bag, to be sure!
Insofar as the series itself, for me ideally, I think the much improved visual quality, along with the inclusion of some of the alternate soundtracks, and the Screen Gems end logo would trump the missing...
The benchmark I considered at least in part, was the barebones BATMAN '66 Blu-ray release, which was around $100 for 120 episodes, and that series was "Riddled" (Get it?) with clearance issues. THE MONKEES TV series totals 58 episodes, albeit, assuming that the multiple alternate soundtracks...
At this point, $30 per season or $50 for both seasons is probably the maximum I could scrape together, and even then it would be a challenge.
Of course, that's beside the point. I also think the above pricing wouldn't be unreasonable, given today's market.
CHEERS! :)
While my recent viewings for most of THE MONKEES Episodes remain fairly fresh, I will try to post some observations (Along with a few DVD screenshots!), as they relate to the series, the Kellogg's commercial spots within the select episodes (Along with the Season 1 Bonus Features, which also...
Having now viewed every episode from both seasons, I wish to make one important correction.
Exactly half of the Season 2 episodes feature laugh tracks, which include the following:
Episodes 33 - 43. On the last few of these from episode 39 ("Hillbilly Honeymoon") on, the laugh tracks seemed to...
Having finally viewed every episode from both seasons, I realize that the 15 second Kellogg's commercial spots that follow the show opening within the Season 2 episodes themselves are included, as they are for Season 1.
The above aforementioned is in reference to the previous DVD releases, not...
I sure wish I could purchase the above, but at $199.98 U.S, it's just way too steep for me, especially with our lousy CAN/U.S. rate of exchange! :P
Ah well!
CHEERS! :)
Watch out for this limited Blu-ray set!
Main details from monkees.com:
• All 58 episodes, newly remastered in stunning HD from the original negatives for the very first time, plus the 1969 TV Special “33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee”
• Bonus material featuring commentaries from all four...
Hi Glen!
While I've only viewed my two Season Sets sporadically thus far, it does appear to me that the first season episodes had a zanier, Mack Sennett sort of vibe, whereas during the second season too many changes to the show that didn't quite work kept creeping in. Believe it or not, I...
Hi Mark!
Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you in regards to the copying from VHS. However, the 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE DVD version that derives from the two 1 inch Tape masters really is so bad visually, that in my opinion, a sharp as can be VHS Video would most likely...
Hi DeWilson!
I've read that this Color restoration process actually involves an exact digital recoloring by reading the individual dots that make up the broadcast video transmission! If true, this would be a phenomenal innovation!
Of course, being able to locate the original 2 inch master...
Hi Russell!
The following information regarding 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE might interest you:
In the 1990s, 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee was released commercially by Rhino Home Video in 2 different versions. The version of 33 1/3 released individually in January 1997 (R3 2284) has been...
Hi Robert!
Just this morning, I was struck with the irony of The Beatles' "Good Morning, Good Morning" having been inspired by a Kellogg's Cornflakes Cereal Commercial, Kellogg's of course having been THE MONKEES major sponsor during the original series run!
Though not documented, might John...
I agree with Mark that it would be great to have alternate audio tracks from the Saturday Morning and early syndicated runs. However, he did also touch on a point that could potentially complicate such a venture. If the Dolenz & Jones footage for the final Monkees single was, in fact...
In having checked through THE MONKEES SEASON 2 discs, I was reminded of another error within the liner notes. Contrary to its listing among the Bonus Features, "Vintage Monkees Kellogg's Commercials" are NOT included for Season 2, as they are for Season 1! This leads me to speculate that only...
Hi Glen!
That's one thing that I haven't figured out how to do. Do you have any idea how I could go about switching this Topic to another Forum, or is this a job for a Moderator at this point?
CHEERS! :)
Tony
Hi Mick!
Thanks for your kind response! I have the 2011 Eagle Media Reissues.
In regards to the packaging of the Reissued Season 1 and Season 2 DVD Sets of THE MONKEES, here are my opinions of their Pros and Cons:
Pros:
1. Much more compact than the previous Record Player Season 1 and...
THE MONKEES - Seasons 1 And 2 DVD Sets:
Though there are a few HTF Threads that relate to THE MONKEES DVD Sets, it appears that they died without there having been very much discussion. The one Thread dating from 2003, the "Here we come...Monkees Season 1 DVD Box Set" that mysteriously was...
