Second viewing today, at a local multiplex. Enjoyed it even more than the first time. :) A few stray thoughts:
It's really a shame that Harrison Ford probably won't get much awards attention this season, because he's very, very good in the movie. Always inhabiting character, still rogueish at...
^ Though I bristle at the "why can't you just lay back, check your inner critic, and enjoy the movie?" line of criticism, I understand her argument.
But I also understand those who felt TFA was just too derivative, and that that compromised their enjoyment.
It didn't compromise my...
I don't blame Lucas for being defensive, either. I just wonder why he's doing interviews, because there's no up side for him if he's dissatisfied with either the film or the deal.
^ According to Wikipedia, George Lucas has 4 children.
He really should just keep quiet if he has nothing good to say about the new films. I'm surprised he didn't have a STFU clause in the Disney contract. But Disney's lawyers probably figured, correctly, that George slamming the new movies...
I've only seen it once, but in Ren's vision, isn't there a shot of Kylo Ren at night in the rain surrounded by a few others and among many bodies on the ground? I assumed this was Kylo killing the Jedi trainees that Han (?) referred to.
I would LOVE an extended edition (a la LOTR) of TFA. One of my criticisms is that there wasn't breathing room between the numerous action setpieces, and an EE would give that.
Likelihood, unfortunately: Very Low.
^ I find it gross to watch Luke and Leia flirt and eyef**k and kiss each other on the mouth, only to find out they're brother and sister. And TWINS, no less.
Why, it's almost like Lucas hadn't really thought through all his story elements in advance and then retconned and jury-rigged like mad...
Leia was referring to Padme. Here's the dialogue from ROTJ:
Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother, your real mother?
Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Leia: Just images really, feelings.
Luke: Tell me.
Leia: She was, very beautiful, kind...
Aside from the fact that Episode VIII has a strong, interesting director at the helm, I think the best reason to be optimistic is that it won't have the narrative and nostalgic baggage to lug around that TFA did.
Carrying that baggage and making a fun, worthy successor was a very, very heavy...

One of my favorites:
dear diary the substitute math teacher kept calling me "rilo kiley" it was upsetting hux says he is an untermensch I guess we are talking
I hope the next film(s) bring us worlds we haven't seen, and can't see here.
Also, wouldn't mind an instance or two of visual lyricism (e.g., binary sunset in ANH).
Oh I agree that the movie (ROTJ) intends some measure of redemption for Vader.
But that doesn't mean we have to give it to him. :)
I hope we can agree that once you slaughter a roomful of children, you are no longer redeemable.
Back to TFA: It's a good question now to ponder whether...
I always thought the end of ROTJ was not about Vader's redemption but Luke completing his proper Jedi training by seeing that some good remained in Vader and acting on it (or, more precisely, Luke NOT acting in anger by destroying Vader).
Vader was irredeemable for all the reasons you say above.
In fairness to your 6-year-old son, any adult who cares about spoilers and who doesn't know not to ask (or to preface any question with "No spoilers! But...") kinda has it coming.
And thus ends my season of victim-blaming.
^ The ArcLight Theatres are known for their high quality presentations, as well as very attentive and professional staff.
First world problems, I know, but I would've been pretty raw, too, if that had happened at our theatre yesterday.
A missing link: Did the movie tell us what Poe Dameron was doing between his crashdown on Jakku (and separation from Fin) and leading the Resistance fighters across the lake?
