I purchased Aliens: SE for $5 on Prime Video yesterday - 4K HDR and DD+ 5.1. Movies Anywhere and FAH are 4K DV and Atmos. On Apple TV, it’s 4K DV and Atmos on an Apple TV device, but HD and Atmos on Roku devices. Weird.

And now it is fixed on FAH! Just wanted to drop a note and let you know that Aliens Special Edition has been fixed for Apple TV.

This is straight from a contact I have with FAH upper management (that I really don't like to use unless necessary): For the Aliens Special Edition, there is an on going issue with the encode for Apple TV and we are aware of this and working with our engineering team so that the encode we use...

And now FAH is saying these issues are Movies Anywhere's problem....

FAH Customer Care actually believes that doing the same thing over and over again (escalating and re-escalating a support case to the next tier) will eventually yield a different result (next tier will actually respond). Einstein's definition of insanity.

They haven't replied to a case I filed back in November dealing with issues from the Vudu/FandangoNow library merger (which was nearly THREE YEARS AGO), which I had to recreate twice before because they keep closing it.

So, no further response, then? Not surprised... As soon as I am over this chest cold or bronchitis, I will be recording an episode of my video podcast centered on FAH. It will not be pretty...

They are also suggesting I contact Apple, since this seems to be isolated to that device. :rolleyes:

Did you ever contact Fandango at Home regarding this issue? They are trying to tell me that I am the only one who has called in about this issue.

Hard to believe, but only Tier 2 tech support reps know what those codes mean, and they do not communicate to customers. At least, that is what a Tier 1 Customer Care rep told me. Fandango at Home (aka Vudu) Customer Care is nothing more than a message center where a customer's only option is...

Apple TV is fine - it's the Vudu app on Apple TV devices that is being wonky.

Is your Apple TV running iOS v17.3 or v17.4? I just upgraded to v17.4 and that fixed the buffering issue, but not the Movie Unavailable issue.

Something is definitely going on with the 4K version of Aliens on the Vudu app for Apple TV 4K. The theatrical won't play - no error code, just endless buffering when trying to launch (that is the situation with just about every special feature, too). The Special Edition cut under special...

Yeah, kind of strange, although the SE of The Abyss plays fine on my Apple TV.

Plays just fine on my Roku devices in DV/DA and on my iPhone’s Vudu app (but limited to HDX).

I am getting the same error on my Apple TV. I contacted Vudu support, and of course they were of no help whatsoever.

And they JUST updated the SE (both individual title and special features) to Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos!

And then there is trying to contact Vudu, whose agents will hang up on you the minute you mention anything negative about the company or service (or lack thereof).

And complaining to the retailers is rather pointless, as they just give the standard response of "That is what the studio sent us."

I think the only extended cut of a James Cameron film I really don't care for it T2. Yeah, the mirror scene is pretty cool, but the additional footage adds nothing to the film whatsoever.

I think Disney took the separate Special Edition cut out of circulation since it is hard to find even if you purchased it previously - it will not show up in any of my digital libraries if I search by title, but does show up if I scroll thru my entire library. What is odd is that on Apple TV...
