If the modem does not have a router built-in, then you can't go Modem -> Switch because the modem usually needs the router to assign IP address, and most switches are "dumb," meaning they can't do DHCP either.

The new $99 eero is, from the specs I've read, essentially an eero Beacon but with Ethernet ports. The re-named eero Pro is a tri-band router while the Beacon and $99 eero are dual-band.
I'm not so sure. I'll bet good money that one of the first things Amazon does is outsource tech support offshore, which is one of the reasons I liked eero as a company - the support was US-based and I always understood the person I was speaking to and vice versa.
