Rewatched Jaws 2 recently and while of course it doesn’t hold a candle to Jaws, it’s fun and the best of the sequels with great production values and a great John Williams score.
I believe the only theme he reused was the shark theme. Everything else was new. It was his deliberate decision to do so. He discusses it on the Jaws 2 extras.
Heartbreaking to some. A sweet relief to others. [emoji6]
And as noted, second unit shots are always used at the discretion of the director. What Alves said is quite normal.
Perhaps it's the language barrier but you made it seem like Alves directed the entire scene as it is in the film and...

I remember seeing Jaws 2 in 78. There was such tremendous anticipation for the film. After it was over I think it's safe to say that while very enjoyable, most filmgoers didn't think that it was as good as the first. And it couldn't...
To be clear. What beach scene are you referring to? The one you Linked to? As stated that was a second unit shot not used in the final film except for a few seconds.

A recent good shark film was the Australian film "Bait" in 3D. Lots of gory fun.

But you're right about stirring up trouble. These kind of statements always sucker someone into believing them sorta like conspiracy theories.
And also Benchley didn't leave Jaws because he was never really part of it other than a cameo.
He was indeed upset with the ending but here is how Spielberg explains it.

Sorry but that hardly proof. All that article says it that Alves shot some second unit footage that was not used. Big difference.
All the scenes in Jaws except the shark blowing up were filmed by Spielberg.
