We sit around 8-9' away from the 47". I've been moving us a bit closer each week to find the sweet spot between viewing and listening.

Phil gave great advice. Watch it for a week or two (depending on your return policy), make sure you watch your favorite films, then decide! My 47" seemed too small after the first month :)
