I'd have to disagree somewhat Norman. I have both the SE THX box set and the THX Definitive Collection set, and the difference in transfer is virtually nil. Both have amazing transfers. If the SE set has an edge, it's slight at best.
As far as audio, the SE has the edge, mainly because the...
Phil, yes I've seen them. I have a Pioneer Elite PRO-720HD set. And you're right. The VHS looks better than any other VHS tape I have. However, I normally watch my THX Definitive Collection or my THX Special Edition box sets. In fact, I watched the special editions over a two night period a...
I don't watch the VHS tapes either. I just have them as collectables. I haven't even opened my VHS box sets. They're still in their shrink wrap. I have the Special Edition THX box set, and the original THX box set. If I feel like watching the special editions, I just pull out my THX special...
Nah, you're probably okay. You've made a wise choice my young padawan.:D Since you might not get the originals on DVD, this was most definitely a wise investment, especially at that price.
Matt, you'll love the Definitive Collection. I just hope you get a good quality set, meaning the box set is beat up and scratched up. You should be fine though.
Now, lets hope Lucas is smart enough to include all of this on the DVD. But just in case, I'm keeping my box set. But even if the DVD did, I'd still keep it because it's that good.
Ok Matt, that's just the extras for Star Wars. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have very similar extras on each disc. Remember, each film is on 3 CAV discs, with the last side of disc 3 in each film being CLV.

Jeez! That's way more than me. In that case, you'd be silly not to get it. This box set is the ultimate collector's item. It gives you that pride of ownership that so few DVDs do. As for my wallet, it hasn't spoken to me in a decade. I've spent more than 25 grand on home theater equipment. I've...
Matt, if it was me, and I could get the Definitive Collection for $150 less than retail, I'd snatch it up in a hurry. But it's ultimately up to you. I haven't seen the THX single film LDs, but I've heard they're very good as for picture and sound. But the Definitive Collection is the creme de la...
That's correct. I forgot. Coax is good for DTS. But you need, as Rob said, a player with an AC-3 RF demodulator. It's been a long time since I've been invloved with LDs. But Rob is correct.
As for the Definitive Collection, it retailed for $250 US. But you should be able to find it for much...
If you truly love the films, get the THX Definitive Collection Box set. It is the best version of the originals. It is pricey, but well worth it. Also, the THX CLV single sets. But if I were you, and I was investing in an LD player just for Star Wars, you owe it to yourself to get the Box Set.
