Another tangent! When PCs were first in schools, I borrowed one over the Christmas break. Programs for it were on cassette tapes! You pressed play and then came back 1/2 hour later.
There was an attachment for the original Atari, which plugged in the slot, and which had a wire you attached to...
I can't see ever getting rid of my discs until absolutely every movie and TV show, no matter how obscure is available for download. This is certainly not the case now, and why should I pay over and over for something I already have and in worse quality too?
Libraries here do not accept donations, but have a large budget and buy most of the latest DVDs and Blu rays. Our system has far more discs than any Blockbuster had. They also accept requests for purchase.

I can see why people get into conspiracies. You begin to think Edison invented 4K blu rays and they were dumbed down so industries would make money for the last 100+ years:wacko:!
I actually am, but I collected 78s for years due to the performances not the quality. Most had a disclaimer on the label which said “not licenced for radio broadcast”, because although it was know quality was poor, they were the only game in town.
I am referring to DVDs, Blu rays, and even...
I am really weary of buying formats which are supposed to be the last word in clarity and as close to sorce as will ever be possibe, only to find it was all a lie, and it is supplanted by something else.
