You guys do know why the studios loooooove downloads right? No secondary market. Every legit owner paid current retail pice to the studio. Fewer sales and markdowns. Monopoly access. No more BOGOs cause you arent playing amazon against walmart against best buy. WORST for me is that I cant...
No the better question to ask is what tech improvements are likely to be cost effective, appreciated by the vast majority of consumers and still appealing to enthusiasts without being in the realm of ultra nerd fantasy land. I understand your enthusiasm David but your hopes for this current gen...
That's crazy talk in my world. 50 GB is plenty, 1080p is plenty, TrueHD is plenty. And I'm an enthusiast and early adopter. These are overkill for any of the "normal" people I know and am friends with. The ONLY thing that could possibly be beefed up really past that is the DRM and the...
IMO Microsoft _IS_ in huge trouble. You only have to read MiniMSFT and look at the desperation of this Yahoo blunder (and add on top of that the complete lack of reason for 98% of the population to want let alone need Vista) to realize that. The Office Cash cow similarly has no need for upgrades...
You can take this to the bank, now that there is one format for BD the studios will NOT lollygag on the ramp up. HD is already ahead of the DVD adoption curve and DVD had huuuuuuge advantages over tape. We will see gas poured on the fire, not the foot on the breaks.
Also, Engadget is now reporting semi confirmation (duh) that Uni and Paramount will release in BD: Paramount and Universal to publish films on Blu-ray - Engadget
The best part of this going forward is that while it might take a while for Universal and Paramount to get on board with Blu Ray, they can totally re-evaluate how they have been making these HD releases. Specifically with Universal I hope they: -Go from spotty Lossless support to Lossless...
Yeah, except that that woman had a legitimage gripe, and had OFFERED TO SETTLE WITH MCDONALDS FOR 20K: The Actual Facts about the Mcdonalds' Coffee Case McDonalds Hot Coffee Lawsuit and Beyond: The Tort Reform Myth Machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_coffee_case McFacts abut the...
Like I said, nobody wants to be the last guy to abandon the format. If Uni, Paramount and Toshiba were smart they would release a joint press release giving up ASAP.
You do if you think you can help make this a single horse race (that benefits everyone except us few who bought tickets on horse #2) that removes consumer confusion and moves the industry along faster. Concentrating your efforts is a force multiplier
This is VERY telling. As far as I know Netflix is not space constrained like a B&M video store would be, so they must be doing this for cost reasons rather than space. And if they arent making any money at supporting both formats, even if they have to buy the MEAGER selection Uni and Paramount...
We were spoiled by DVD. We got high quality (for the time) audio and visuals plus boatloads of extras for REALLY low costs. If there is a winner in the HD realm then we can continue that. If we don't, we go back to the dark days of LD. And while few may rebel in being snobs, most of us...
Completely different issue RAF. I agree that is a HUGE step forward and I'm all for it. What I dislike, nay HATE, is having to randomly hit a button like a frigginc chimp taking a psych test to decide if i want to watch a particular 'extra' in real time with the movie. I havent seen 300 yet, but...
Since this is now the thread for replying to Mr. Collin's interesting comments about Microsoft's involvement, I will repeat exactly what I said at the EMA show in response to Microsoft's stated 'logic' for HD DVD: "The reasons cited are all CORPORATE friendly, not CONSUMER friendly." And "If...
Got the reply from Paramounts PR folks...
Heh, that's likely what they are saying about the whole confusing mess. 'Ooops!' They didnt reply on whether they thought that participants in the Second Life event would have torches and pitchforks out tho. =)
I just got this from Paramounts PR folks:
I let them know they ought to check into the Blu-Ray being cancelled before they had this second life event....
