Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Maybe, but Barbara Broccoli is still pretty young (she's only 61). She could conceivably keep making these movies for another 20 years.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

No, not really. They stopped naming the next movie more than 30 years ago, and every movie since then has simply said “James Bond Will Return.” Only once was a film titled teased and not used next: at the end of The Spy Who Loved Me, the screen read “James Bond Will Return in For Your Eyes...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

It will simply be a different actor, portraying a Bond unrelated to the one before - the definition of a reboot. Think of the rebooted Battlestar Galactica, where the characters have the same names as the 1978 original, but that's where the similarities end to those storylines. I always thought...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

There will be another Bond movie, and another and another. Amazon just bought MGM based in part on the value of the Bond franchise. And if you stayed through the credits of NTTD, you saw the familiar "James Bond Will Return."

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

If Henry Cavill can play Napolean Solo, an American spy creation of Ian Fleming (not to mention his turns as midwesterner Superman), and do so very well IMO, then an American actor can play James Bond.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

To my surprise, I really, really enjoyed it. I have always liked Daniel Craig as Bond but I felt most of his films weren't well served by the writers, but No Time To Die is excellent, and Craig is better than ever. The movie is also a tribute to vast history of the Bond series, honoring so many...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

My guess is that this movie is going to do considerably better than its $50M-$60M projection - especially when you consider the take that Venom got last week ($100M in 5 days). I'd guess Bond will take it something in the upper $90s this weekend. This is movie that the industry has been...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Not me! The story does not make sense, and was written by a writer I can’t stand - John Logan, who has never written a movie I liked, despite all his accolades - as well as those Bond movie hacks, Purvis and Wade. I don’t think the audience should ever know Bond’s background, and Skyfall gave...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Actually, I said it was the kind of source most people might get movie advice from, meaning that it's a mainstream publication. Could've been the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post or dozens of other news outlets that are more local.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

It seems to me that everything in the streaming era is too long. Episodic television that is regularly an hour or more often seems like a slog. I give a lot of credit to shows like The Mandalorian which usually clock in at 37-40 minutes. Most movies these days seem to go past 2 hours. 2:15...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

NYT review says the movie is an hour too long, says it would be better served by being a fast-paced 90 minutes. I’m sure many people here will roll their eyes and not care what the most mainstream of mainstream critics says, but this is the kind of source from which most people will get their...

With the replication issues that discs have been having lately, it is very unlikely this will be out before the end of the year.

There are plenty of very long movies that would benefit from a leaner running time.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

They use enough of it. All the convoluted nonsense, the needlessly complex storylines that make no sense are the hallmark of Purvis and Wade, and have been for 22 years and 6 films.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Spectre was 2 1/2 hours and felt like too much. At three hours, this could be quite a slog. Three hour films need a big cast of characters, so we can follow multiple stories - think of the David Lean epics, or even Endgame. A Bond movie is a spy thriller - it should be tense, gripping and fast.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

That's a cool song for sure, and underrated if you ask me. I like Adele's song for Skyfall, but found the ones for Spectre and Casino to be forgettable. I haven't listened to the new one yet. One very annoying thing is that the soundtracks to the Craig-era films have not carried the songs (with...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Bingo. This post says it all, folks! The writing has been THE major problem with the Bond series for 20+ years, and it all comes down to this writing duo (and John Logan, a writer I have never cared for, despite his accolades). Purvis & Wade have to go to save the Bond series.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

I like Daniel Craig as Bond, I just don’t think he’s been well served by the writers (same goes for Pierce Brosnan). There’s barely been any levity in them, in a series that used to be full of it.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

If that’s true, that’s just a bad bet. 900M to break even? That number is just insane. Any studio exec who authorized a gamble like that should be fired.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

At some point, you have to release the movie, and hope you’ve made the best one you could. A good movie will find its audience, no matter how long it takes. (Of course, with home video not being as lucrative these days, it’s harder to make as much money that way.)

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

This has been discussed before in the series’ history, notably around 1979-1980 when Moore made rumblings about getting out. It was a bad idea then, and remains a bad idea. The appeal of Bond is that he’s timeless. If they mess with that, they’re fools.

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

I have bought the Bond films more than any other series of films. First, on CED from Dr. No through Octopussy (including NSNA); next on VHS through Tomorrow Never Dies, then I bought most of them again on VHS when they were remastered and included the Pink Panther shorts (these were the...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Not liking Moonraker is legit, even if I disagree. I saw it in the theater with my older brother and his friend, both of whom were Bond fans from the Goldfinger days. We came out of the theater and I was saying how much I liked it, and his friend was glum and said "That's the worst Bond movie...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

Nope. For 17 years, the answer to the question "What is the worst Bond movie?" was easy. It was A View To A Kill. But now it's Die Another Day, which is an affront to the entire series and the genre. (The World Is Not Enough isn't much better.) I think Moonraker is one of the more enjoyable...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

The title songs have been okay (except for the last one, the name of which I can't even remember, by Sam Smith, is that right?), but only the Adele song is a real keeper. I'd put it in the top 5-6 Bond songs. While we are on the subject, it is beyond infuriating that none of the Craig-era...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

A direction I'd like to see is for Tom Hiddleston to take over the role (he's been mentioned a few times the past few years) and use his considerable Roger Moore-like charm to begin a new era in the series with some levity that harkens back to the Connery/Moore years. (Another name I have seen...

Bond 25 - "No Time to Die" (2021)

I have long thought - and hoped - they'd adapt the John Gardner novels that started in the early 80s. I enjoyed many (not all) of those books tremendously. I think they'd be a breath of fresh air at this point. Whatever the next film is, my #1 hope is that they get rid of Purvis and Wade as...
