My kids and I having been watching all the Star Wars movies again over the past few months. Two weeks ago, we watched Return of the Jedi. Today we saw The Force Awakens. Something I noticed: Rey's moves in her battle with Kylo Ren look almost identical to Luke's in his final battle with Vader...
My wife sent me this today, quite outraged. I have to say it's one of the worst things I have ever read: Full of misogyny and ignorance, and more than a little self-righteousness. Proceed at your own risk.
AN OPEN LETTER TO REY FROM STAR WARS...
I was annoyed when I saw Abrams' comments. This idea that keeping audiences in the dark for years is fun is wrong; it's frustrating and takes away enjoyment from the series.
I want to find Abrams' "mystery box" and smash it to fucking pieces.
Funny, I'm in Hollywood Studios now, and they're selling a Han and Chewie shirt that says "Chewie, we're home," except for some strange reason the picture, which is them entering the Falcon from the trailer, has Han's hair colored brown.
I must have seen 200 different Star Wars shirts on...
Colin Trevorrow promises a satisfying resolution to the question of Rey's parents. That's great, but do we have to wait until 2019 for it? That's stretching the "mystery box" bullshit too far.
Look for Lando in Episode 8:

Doesn't sound like it's going to be a spoiler. Williams is going to make sure everyone knows he's in it.

Star Wars: Return Of The Lucas? Fan Petition Wants George Lucas To Direct Episode IX

Third time today, I did catch (barely) the Guinness "Rey" and the McGregor line (which is almost inaudible). I did not hear the Yoda line, but I did catch the Cloud City corridor where Luke and Vader fought.
Harrison Ford and Daisy Ridley give the best performances of the movie. No one ever...
Rey's identity allegedly revealed in Disney Infinity game.

Of course, anything can change between now and 2017.
This writer really gets into something that has bothered a lot of fans of the original trilogy to whom I have spoken, which is that TFA, for all its merits, destroys the (for lack of a better word) happy ending in Return of the Jedi after all the struggles the main characters went through...
One point in the movie that's often overlooked and shouldn't be is the destruction of the Republic, which A) resets the series back to the days of Episodes IV-V, and B) really mirrors Abrams' destruction of Vulcan in the 2009 Star Trek.
Here's two interesting articles on it...
To be fair, Ford is one of - if not the - biggest movie star of all time. His take of TFA should net him around what Robert Downey Jr. got for each Avengers movie.
I haven't heard a bad word about Ridley. Most people - including me - think she was the best thing in the movie. She's set up for...
Abrams and Kasdan are leaving the resolution of all the questions we have to Rian Johnson, according to Kasdan:

In case anyone was wondering who came up with the idea to it was J.J. Abrams.

From the article:

And this, to me, is something you can find traces of in all of J.J.'s writing, and I think it's...
It's fine to tease the audience some and to leave them wanting more, but I do not like the sort of writing that leaves so many unanswered questions, most of which will never be resolved. This was the biggest failing of TFA, and it's a big flaw.
My kids saw the movie yesterday and loved it. So, this morning, my wife is out with one of my sons, and they see a woman they know. The woman says "Oh, you saw Star Wars? How was it?"
My son (who is almost 7) says "It was great!"
The woman says "Don't tell me what happens! I didn't see it...
I seem to remember during the pre-production and production phases of TFA, word was going around that Ford signed a multi-picture deal with Disney (six films IIRC), some of which would be Indiana Jones. That doesn't mean the rest would be Star Wars, but there was also this piece about Ford...
That's great news. Maybe we'll see those who departed in TFA as one with the Force. Maybe we'll finally learn what Obi-Wan meant when he said "more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
Speaking of surprise appearances, I was surprised to learn that Frank Oz, Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness...
That's just Ford being a crank because his story idea was rejected. Lucas clearly had no trouble selling "dead" Obi-Wan or Vader toys.
In any case, in the promotion for TFA, Ford has said he was glad Solo wasn't killed off in ROTJ.
Yeah, I like Lando and I hope we see him again (rumor says we will) but don't make Finn related to him. (The only other major black character has to be related to the previous black character?) There's already too much coincidence in these movies. Let Finn be his own man.
Oh, I'm well aware that Ford wanted the character killed off 30+ years ago, but I haven't heard him say that this time around. Even if he did, I don't think it was the right way to go artistically. Yes, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were killed off in their trilogy's initial films, but at that point...
Stuff I liked: The performances (Harrison Ford and Daisy Ridley stole the show; she had the weight of the movie on her shoulders and she delivered; I also liked Adam Driver and Oscar Issac; John Boyega was good too - lighthearted in the right moments), the photography (the cinematography was...
