    Serenity (2005)

I just happened to notice it in the flyer for "sunshine at midnight" when I was seeing Running With Scissors the other night.

    Serenity (2005)

For people in the NY area. The Landmark Sunshine Cinema down on the lower east side will be showing SERENITY as one of their "Sunshine at midnight" movies. The film will play Fri/Sat -midnight on November 10/11, I believe. I'm excited. They tend to pick movies that they know have cult followings...

The film also scored really well with critics who likely never saw a single episode of the show. I saw it with a firefly virgin as well... she loved it.

    Serenity (2005)

Also, the film was made very much in the mentality that even if the public were to know of such atrocities... would it really make a huge difference? Like any other big dramatic revelation of the world, I'm sure there was a lot of "Oh... it's not true. It's made up to criple the alliance!"...

Mr. Universe confused some friends as well. They all asked me "Was he on the show? I don't remember..." Again, it's the knowledge that you might be missing something. Sci-Fi apparently is planning a Firefly marathon in the upcoming weeks, if anyone's interested. Here's what I have to say...

    Serenity (2005)

I'm curious. I haven't seen any of the recent Star Trek movies (with the next generation cast) but how good were they with being "stand-alone" movies? Would a knowledge of the series hurt them to watch? My friend is encouraging me to view the more recent films and I wonder if I shouldn't judge...

    Serenity (2005)

There are probably 19 more markets the film has yet to open in. I think maybe 3-5 of them have been cancelled. I heard there aren't plans to continue the action figures already released. Too bad, I was hoping to get an entire set of the group... *sigh*

    Serenity (2005)

I'm really annoyed that so many news sites continue to bash the film's box office. It underperformed in the US, but that's not all that counts. Like calling THE ISLAND a failure for making only 36 million of the 100+ budget back. Overseas numbers were pretty good. SERENITY has yet to open in...

    Serenity (2005)

See, other than the fact that it was a little bigger I didn't notice that until you mention it. Certain things I just pretended or assumed they'd "added" on in the time since we've seen them on the series. ;) Such as the little feet and legs the ship has now when it lands.

    Serenity (2005)

Me too. When it landed and the little legs smashed off... I was like "NO!" and then when it crashed... oh... I liked the changes because in some cases it seemed to help, and I didn't feel like it was very noticable. What was majorly changed?

    Serenity (2005)

I want a final showing as well, possibly in the next week or so. That'll make 4 plus the preview screening. I'm also going to pick up a copy of Firefly: The Series for my mother (I've got my own) and maybe some friends. As well as copies of the movie when it comes out. Remember another...

    Serenity (2005)

The funny part is that most of the stuff people are "confused" over aren't mentioned in the series. Like I was saying before, it's the psychological aspect of knowing that previous episodes exist. When something comes up that you are unaware of so far in the film your mind immediately goes "Must...

You could also have seen how the movie would have worked as a whole season or two of information. I'm sure there were whole bits that would have just been minor elements in a single episode that had a different focus. Just makes you wish you could at least read scripts or something for episodes...

    Serenity (2005)

Depends on the series and the creator... I think Six Feet Under and other shows on HBO work amazing with shorter seasons because the stories are really great... Firefly was GREAT for those 15... and I have a feeling the final 7 would have been amazing.

    Serenity (2005)

Actually, the average episode of television (or at least, FIREFLY) cost something like 2.3 million an episode. For 22 episodes... that's a big amount of money. ;)

    Serenity (2005)

F that! ;) It's funny though, because I think a lot of us had that thought..., but forget a new movie. I'd have them make a new season for 60 million and put it on DVD. :D

    Serenity (2005)

I agree. People thought that by the year 2000 we'd be in flying cars and wearing space boots. I think the advances made in the show reflect what is highly likely going to happen. In reality, the technology that we invent DOES move rather slowly. The stuff presented in the series and the film...

    Serenity (2005)

I think the more accurate description was he pitched it as "the original idea for Star Trek." Which was like Wagon Train In Space. The movie made another 2.4 million this weekends. It's dropping, but the overseas numbers are also picking up. It's now made over 6 million in just a few markets...

    Serenity (2005)

We also have NO idea the legal issues regarding a possible return of the series. Some reports say 10 years, others 3, others 5. Some imply there's NO chance they can make the show, others say it could. I'm simply saying that the possibility still exists... probably about .01% but still, it's...

    Serenity (2005)

Also, I'm sure there's some legal issue they could get around. FIREFLY is done... but "Serenity: The Series" could be a possibility.

    Serenity (2005)

Am I the only one who thinks a sci-fi resurrection of the show isn't rediculous to imagine? Tim Minear could have a strong hand in it while Whedon's working on his film projects. The Sci-Fi ratings for the re-runs are pretty strong, and appear to have gained numbers since the premiere...

    Serenity (2005)

Seeing it again tomorrow with 3 people. Honestly, it's not fading as quickly as we'd think... The film is going to clear 25 million in the US at least. Assuming it can make 50 million overseas, that's 75 million. Throw in all the merchandise, DVD sales, etc. etc... it's highly likely this...

    Serenity (2005)

We're nervous because Universal publicly stated that without an gross of 80 million worldwide there'd be no sequel consideration. In reality there's always the chance that video sales and the like could push Universal into doing some kind of continuation... we're just holding out for a strong...

    Serenity (2005)

Predictions have the film dropping about 50% this weekend. I'm predicting a total gross of just under 25 million US. It really depends on overseas grosses now.

    Serenity (2005)

However, the movie itself was pretty good. And by that I mean that the first 45 minutes were extremely dull, with numerous references to a TV series I'd never seen, so that just made it even less interesting. The tone of in the first half was way too self-congratulatory, and it really felt like...

    Serenity (2005)

There was a TV program playing before RIVER beat the hell out of everyone in the bar. In it (what sounded like a news report) a woman said "The Alliance has never supported claims of the existence of reavers..." it was softly in the background before the candy bar commercial turned River loony.

    Serenity (2005)

My nitpick was that, according to the series, 6 months pass between Our Mrs. Reynolds and Trash. The movie is supposed to be 8 months after they pick up River and Simon... I suppose you could say that this timeline works... pick up simon/river and spend less than a month on board before our...
