I think there are more people that like this film version than you realize, but don’t feel the need any longer to engage those that don’t like it. To each his own. I love this movie so I’m good!

I’m pretty sure it’s struggles would be nothing like what they’re experiencing right now. As a senior, I know from my circle of friends that they have given up going to the movies. Most of them are musical fans.
Are you serious, people can love musicals and not like a particular musical. I love westerns and film noirs, but there are plenty of westerns and film noirs I don't particularly like or even care for.

The year if released prior to this pandemic actually doesn't matter. What matters is this musical came out during a horrible time for movie theaters for the reasons you mentioned which negatively affected its box office. My point is this fine musical was doom to box office failure...
I had my second viewing today and it just re-enforced my belief that this version will be the one I watch more often, whenever, I'm in the mood for WSS. Again, the 1961 film is very good, but this latest film adaptation just resonates with me more than Wise/Robbins fine musical.
I disagree as I think Spielberg did just fine even with a down box office. This film version was a successful film adaptation despite the pandemic and audience apathy towards musicals that has negatively affected its box office. It's too bad this movie wasn't released in 2019, but those are...
