Most movies are made just to make money and this one will most likely gross over 1.6 billion dollars. It is about a 1/2 hour too long, but I enjoyed it.
You must be talking about reviewer scores as The Lion King is currently at 88% audience score which is more important when it comes to box office acceptance.
Yeah, I love those that try to downplay the box office without acknowledging that the film continues to do well each week and ignore that people in general seem to like the film a lot more than some vocal HTF members.
For a movie that isn't going to be a classic and according to some people serves little purpose for being made, it sure is taking in a lot of money as it approaches the 1.4B mark worldwide.;) I guess the masses are enjoying the film despite its shortcomings.:)
I'll let you have the last word as I made my point and the film status of this version of "The Lion King" remains to be determine by people much younger than us in the years to come.
It's only movies! Some of you take this much too seriously. You think Mayer, Thalberg and the rest of the Hollywood studio heads knew they were making classics? Of course they didn't, they were simply making movies to entertain the masses and to make profits while doing so.
I've been reading that same line for decades now about Hollywood. Hollywood has always been about making money and all of that other stuff about being creative for the art is just a bunch of frivolous words certain people like to espouse about.
What do classics have anything to do with it? Furthermore, young children that will eventually grow up will determine whether this film becomes such a thing, not some adults trying to place a label on this film right now.
Okay, I went to a morning showing to find out for myself and I don't agree with the level of criticism this film has received here. It's longer than I want it to be, but other than that, I thought the film was fine. I watched it in a Dolby Atmos theater so I enjoyed the music and soundtrack...
Children are going to drive this box office, not some adults that want to see how this remake of their favorite childhood film got screwed up. I think kids will have more forgiving approach to it without the emotional attachment some adults will have with the original.
Yes, we differ on Iger and I don't accept your concept that Disney is surviving by eating its own tail. I can understand you being against all of these massive corporations that are swallowing other companies, but don't kid yourself that making money isn't what drove most of these business CEOs...
Iger is the boogeyman for some people. Truth be told, Iger isn't some creative person like Walt Disney, he's a business guy like Roy Disney was back in the day.
I'm just saying that Edwin sees the worst in Disney which is why he has the dollars sign in his typed name for them. He thinks they treat their consumers like crap and to an extent, he's right.
