I don't know, many of the directors I read about were just as obstinate/self centered in their later years as they were when active as directors. John Ford was my favorite director, but he was an asshole, pretty much his whole life. It's probably one of the reasons why I liked Ford so much, we...
Are you talking about George Lucas or me? If it's the former then let me remind you I was speculating on the age angle when it comes to Lucas. As to me, I was kind of joking because I've always been somewhat insolent from the time I was a kid to now. I'm just a rebel/nonconformist by nature...
It's his manner and undesirable traits that are also giving a lot of that 4 billion dollars away to various charities and projects. Listen, every single one of us is a mixed bag with good and bad traits. You don't like his manner, fine, he probably doesn't give a rip what you or anybody else...
I guess he didn't think what he said would become so controversial, but he should have known better that anything said with some substance is going to get blown up afterwards.
Kevin,
I'm confused by your comments in bold. First, you say you don't think Disney will spend the monies to re-edit the original three films back to how they were in the 1980s, then you state you think we will see the original versions in HD. Which is it as monies will be required to do...
I don't disagree with you about the separate release scenario, but I do think those numbers are low when it comes to people buying the original theatrical releases on Blu-ray as a stand-alone release. Once word got around, I think a feeding frenzy would occur for such a release. Even I, who is...
Perhaps, but I think those hating these changes have deeper emotional investment in this argument than those with the contrary view which is why I think the vitriol is more so from that group. Personally, except for the changes I noted in Return of the Jedi, I just shrug my shoulders on those...
As to the Vader scene at the end with the Emperor, I had a theater flashback from Champaign, Illinois, where I first viewed that scene with a movie audience back in 1983. The audience just howled with approval when Vader grabbed the Emperor. I think it was the biggest ovation during a scene in...
I think respect needs to go both ways in that regard. Frankly, I think the venom has been much more from those that think those changes are sacrilege.
As to Lucas, I don't agree with him. The Greedo shoot first aspect was totally unnecessary. With that said, I don't think it's a big deal...
Yup, I agree too. I hate the Vadar "Noooo" as well as the different location celebrations. And don't get me started on Anakin switch with Yoda and Obi-wan. In the future, something tells me that Disney will rectify those issues.
I just got done with the theatrical cut of Return of the Jedi and I'm half way through the BD of the remastered cut. After I finish watching the BD in its entirety, I'll post my thoughts, but what I do know about the changes in this film from my previous viewings, I'm not going to be as...
Today, I watched both versions of The Empire Strikes Back and I think the remastered version is slightly better than the theatrical cut. Next up, Return of the Jedi scheduled for tomorrow.
I say a lot of things, but people have a mind of their own and will do whatever they feel is right for them.
As to your other point, every person/artist is different and people should acknowledged those differences. Anyway, I'll let you have the last word as I'm done with this back and forth...
