I just want to note, since I brought it up in the SE thread--I wasn't really complaining, and I'm not calling for the heads at Warner, or Scorcese's eyebrows or anything. I just noticed it and wondered if anyone else had seen it. Hell, I didn't really catch it until the very end of the scene...

That's a little different. That's something they do DURING post production of a movie before it gets to duping, I believe. In this case, this is a scratch on the film LONG after the fact. It's not a case of them erasing something before they composite it or anything like that.
