Indeed, it is relatively simple to get the series, just get yourself multi-regioned and away you go. It just involves some minor inconvenience and expense. With the Batman series, there's no way AT ALL to get that, which is ten times worse.

That's almost certainly RCE (Region Coding Enhanced). This was basically a tweak to region-coding to make it more robust. It mainly affected DVD players that had been made "region free" (and not many of those). It did not affect players where the user could switch regions as they pleased. RCE...
