My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Delighted to see that TCM is now showing the restored version of GRIMM. Anyone on the fence about buying the new Warner Archive Blu-Ray can check out TCM On Demand to see the stunning improvement.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

With the passing of its founder, Paul Allen, Vulcan was moving away from its support of Allen's pet projects, of which the Seattle Cinerama was one. https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/vulcan-to-close-its-arts-entertainment-division-which-includes-cinerama-and-seattle-art-fair/

Sad news. First DC's Uptown (which had some traces of its Cinerama past), then the Seattle Cinerama, and now the Dome.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I'll respect this forum's Rule of Conduct #10 and not state my opinion of the nitpickers who are second-guessing what may be the most unexpected and amazing film renewal effort since Abel Gance's NAPOLEON. Instead, I will continue to enjoy my video library and its many Cinerama features...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

As noted elsewhere, this will be a Warner Archive release.

Or even less likely, Otto Preminger's film of PORGY AND BESS.

And Cinerama, Inc. and Pacific Theatres should be sharing in that award for their support, which is even more impressive since neither business is probably thriving at this point.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I'm not arguing with you, but judging older films by today's standards rather than the standards of their time isn't exactly a rare phenomenon. It saddens me how the work of such artists as James Baskett and Tim Moore remains unavailable, legally at least. Getting back to GRIMM, while Mr...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Perhaps the fact that both THE CONQUEROR and FLOWER DRUM SONG feature outdated caricatures of Asian people was a factor, while semi-naked women and violence always remain in vogue. (Then again, John Wayne ripped off Susan Hayward's clothes before fifteen minutes had passed in THE CONQUEROR. :) )

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Maybe. Who knows what has been done inside the building since the theatre shut down. I guess the Uptown was a trendsetter one last time - it closed down before every other theater in DC closed down, for a different reason...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Same here. While the Kino Lorber Insider recently broke my heart by saying they had no interest in releasing THE CONQUEROR on Blu-Ray, at least I have my crappy non-anamorphic DVD to enjoy - it's better than nothing.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I project less wide. My screen is 144" diagonal, so the image is still an impressive size. I have all of the Strohmaier Cinerama Blu-Rays, so I have a "Cinerama" preset on my Epson projector, along with "Flat", "CinemaScope" and "70mm/Todd-AO".

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Different strokes for different folks. I too have a CinemaScope projection screen, but I love the Smilebox versions of the Cinerama films, even How The West Was Won, which gave me an option. Until I can afford a Stewart CineCurve screen for my home theatre, Smilebox helps me remember the years...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Who said they wouldn't? It appears the restoration is in the beginning stages. I am sure either WB or its Archive would release it at some point. I also wouldn't rule out streaming, Fathom Events, and a Cinerama Dome/Bradford type series of special showings.

I did contact CineSavant and also followed up with some research of my own, On his Facebook page last Wednesday, Arnold Leibovit (producer of the Puppetoon documentary on George Pal's work) noted that restoration work is underway. Documentarian Harrison Engle, who says he is making a short...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

A knowledgeable friend pointed me to this weekend's CineSavant column, which said that THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM may be in the process of being digital remastered. Does anyone here have any more information on this? https://cinesavant.com/cinesavant-column-200/

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Forgive me if this has been addressed before, but might The Film Foundation (Martin Scorsese's group) be interested in helping support the restoration of TWWOTBG? In 2013, it helped fund the restoration of REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE - another Warner Bros. property...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

And while Mr. Allen's wallet is opened, maybe he could also finance a 4K remastering (plus whatever restoration work might be needed) for two Ultra Panavision Cinerama films, THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD and THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL, both of whose existing Blu-Ray releases are notorious for their...
