DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

Yeah, I've gotta admit, the whole "holy crap! I've got SW on DVD" feeling has kinda worn off. I actually haven't even watched ESB or ROTJ yet. I plan to watch ESB later today though.

I guess they just used a film print or something. The guys that made the documentary were given free reign to use anything in the Archives.

I was gonna watch ESB last night but somehow I didn't get around to it. I might watch it later, but being a Sunday, I've got work to do for tomorrow. :frowning: Anyway, back to ANH observations, it's probably (;)) been brought up that there are green flashes when Vader and Obi-Wan have their...

I saw ANH last night and I've gotta mention I never noticed some of the casual Stormtrooper conversations before. Like when Ben is shutting down the tractor beam. "Do you know what's going on?" (Disgruntled) "Maybe it's another drill." "Hey, have you seen that...

Rich, I'm sure someplace like Blockbuster will sell it out of the box in their "Previewed" DVD selection. Maybe Hollywood Video does this too. Probably not what you meant, but it's an option.

Whoa. I just noticed the little "Star Wars" lettering on my A New Hope cover doesn't have the shimmering silver finish that the other ones do. Maybe my scanner took it off when I tried to scan the cover! I think I'm being paranoid again.

Robert, my scanner isn't handling hi-res scanning so well, so it's better if someone else scans them.

Didn't know that. I actually haven't purchased a DVD since May. I've been saving up for the season and SW was my first purchase. Brave new world.... I can try, but my scanner isn't the best.

Here's a scan I made of them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...or/scan0015.jpg Can anyone else confirm if this is what their cases look like?

They're not locking tabs. They're just these little horizontal thingies that pop out.

Come on, guys! I need answers about the keepcases. I'm paranoid and unbalanced. You don't want to see me doing anything rash!

So I got my copy and the first thing that strikes me as bad is the keepcases. Did anyone else get cheap looking keepcases? Not at all up to the quality of the prequel films or the Indy keepcases. Mine also have these little things on the side of them where they open. Am I the only...

Well then, I guess the good folk at the official site can add to their lightsaber databank entry now.

Is there a sound problem on the DD 2.0 track too? Will it make a difference if you don't have 5.1 capabilities? Anyway, I plan on shooting down to CompUSA but for some reason, I don't expect them to have it. I'll cross my fingers though. I'll decide from there. If they have it...

Actually, I think the free R2-D2 is online only. Their in-store bonus will be a limited edition issue of the SW Insider magazine.

Since when has VH1 shown music videos? ;) Seriously, they never show music videos anymore. It all seems to be their "I Love the 80s" series of shows. I figured their programming was nationwide. Have you checked their schedule?

That sounds like a good deal. But I don't buy DVDs at CompUSA. I've been there several times, and they strike me as a stange place to buy discs. Will they be stocking a lot?

I was disappointed to find out I missed the VH1 special this morning, but to my surprise, it started again 10 minutes later! I'm currently watching it now. Very fun. One of the great things about it is that it definitively answers the "Is Han wearing a vest?" thing that fans bring...

Fry's is only on the west coast, right? I tried searching to see if there were any stores near me, but I found none.

The version that aired on A&E is about an hour shorter than the DVD version which runs for 2 and a half hours. When you take commercials into account, the A&E program is only 90 minutes. Anyway, good stuff. Can't wait to see the full version because some of it needed fleshing out. I...

The first bit from the A&E airing that I found interesting is that they showed an alternate take or the dailies or something, and Peter Mayhew was actually delivering lines like "That old man's mad!" It makes you wonder what other things Chewie was saying.
