Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

"Ladyhawke it will be 2.00:1 and noone will care, because it will still look a vast improvement over that piece of shit we have now." I think theres a 16x9 2.35;1 version out in some country,

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

AN debate...and while I remember it being waged...it wasn't until TLE (which is a film in which the images especially moved me) that it became 'personal" for me. while I am glad you see the light, the AN cropping for some reason bothers me even more.Maybe it the fact that I just saw it in the...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

Robert Harris:"This is a beautifully produced set, albeit fashioned against the Criterion norm of OAR, is the best out there, and is likely to remain as such until the film is released in HD." I agree somewhat with this,Yes its a super collection of extras,But the British pal set has some of...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

"Originally Posted by Simon Howson There is ONE important thing we can do. DON'T BUY IT. Because if the films keep selling, then Storaro is going to keep cropping them. " Well other than Ladyhawk ,which for some reason is out in 2.35:1 I think most of his other films which one would want...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

The Problem with this type of changing ,is that you can't move actors and sets around in the frame 20 years after the fact,The transfer while very nice has plenty of scenes where actors are cropped out of the picture,Why do people think this dosn't matter,Sure a lot of shots can be cropped...

Just watch 30min of the new Set(disc 1) and did a side by side comparison with The British Pal version, then I put the french pal version on Its clear to me ,someone whos Seen most Storaros mayor films many times in the theatre,That none of these transfers are at the top of the Storaro...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

So much is made of storrao composing the film for this or that,If I were a Director,I would design the frame, and pick the camera angels , the cameraman should take care of the lights, and camera movement How else could a Visual master like Berttolucci work,I can't belive he just said...

"Well, I've just ordered the UK R2 and it's on its way to me; as to if it's any better than the French disc, I'll soon know..." I didn't notice that much ,but I really didn't do a side by side,The french one is 5.1 and dosn't have the commentary,It does come in a red box with hardcover...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

While I love ET,Its hardly a film you remenber that used the picture frame like films like Kane ,or most Leone films, One classic example of great design of the frame is "Apocalypse now" Its hurts that it is Storaro the great, doing this,I don't get it cropping 10-20 % off the sides...

Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection)

"Apocalypse Now" is clealy cropped and about 30% of the Picture is missing Something that really hurts the design of the frame,Which I would think coppola had something to do with,Bertollucci credits storraro with Lighting saying "I take care of everything else" ,I would take that to mean...

"This is already being discussed in this thread: Statement concerning THE LAST EMPEROR (Criterion Collection) " That talks about length, not about 2.00:1 (the statement from the producer" "Maybe I should just buy the R2 16x9 PAL DVD and pass on the new Criterion DVD" I would wait till we...
