Nice! I remember when we upgraded lenses a few months after opening up a vintage location with lenses from the 70s and it was like I got new eyeglasses.
I used to go often - even when I was working in one. Now, it's a handful of times at most. Painful show of "Stan & Ollie" last week at the Bow Tie Cinemas Clairidge (a multi-screen abomination of New Jersey's only Cinerama location) - tiny screen (14 feet wide judging by the ceiling tiles)...
Never heard of that one, looks interesting.
Re: AMC rant. I hate that they run 6 - 8 trailers after that awful preshow stuff. If I'm lucky I can remember one title out of the bunch. That and the exit lights shining on the screen, and the aisle lights shining up on the screen, and the exit light...
Thanks Don. I did some YouTube watching last night seeing how people use those for masking projects. I see I can get them inexpensively from Ebay, etc., I might have to get one and experiment with my side curtains. I have an idea of how I could use one of them with pulleys, wire rope, and...
That's coming along great, like a miniature version of a well-appointed neighborhood art house.

Love it! I was expecting to hear a "ting!" like a changeover shutter.
Am I correct guessing that the automation is two-way allowing you to:
1) run a pre-show on film switching to digital for feature
2) run a pre-show on digital switching to film for feature
Yes, coconut oil is the best for theatre-flavor popcorn (with the Flavcol salt). You could always tell when a theatre switched from coconut to canola oil because it smelled like a fish fry instead of a movie theatre. :)
I spent too many years in the projection booth attempting good showmanship :) .
I want to have full control like I used to have there. If my room wasn't width-challenged, I'd have a curtain traveler going in. As it is, I'll settle for simulating it with lights as I can afford to get them.
Glad to help. I want to get a universal remote that can, with one push, trigger my Hue lights to dim in the sequence I want, hit play on the Blu machine, fade up the audio, and then unblank the projector as the screen lights fade out. One day...
