...and why ROTK will be looked on as an unreal blockbuster to end all blockbusters

-and all with a small % of downright hostile word of mouth, and a somewhat larger % of mediocre wom (and , to be fair, another % of out and out raves). just think what a universally praised piece of family entertainment can do. not to mention a film that actually has a third act to boot! ;)...

i don't see T3 being a sensation. it's old news at this point (although i thought the same about Jim Carrey and TMR). like Seth, i don't plan to make a trip to see this unless reviews are really good. just 'ok' reviews won't cut it. i think the best thing the Hulk has going for it is that...

i'm not sure of the release dates but X2 opened 2 weeks before TMR, generally got better mainstream reviews and yet TMR is going to blow past its whole take so far in just under 2 weeks. if Revolutions holds true to the Wachowski form and leaves a lot of things unresolved & open to...

Revolutions will do alright. the same rabid fans that are decontructing every line of dialouge in Reloaded will be raring to go several more times come Nov. ROTK might steal some of its thunder though. i'll be more interested to see what does better on DVD in the fall, since the Matrixs BO...

$200 million in two weekends is damned impressive- not to mention for an R rated film. the sequel is already in the bag so the biggest thing the movie is accomplishing is to redefine what the ratings will mean to the studios in the future. every time i trun around though i'm hearing bad...

you could have a lot of critics complaining that in the end, it is only 1/2 a good movie, although some will obvioulsy be at odds as to which 1/2 that is.

on the Hulk: it sounds like there is a huge disconnect between the way it is being marketed and the intentions of the story. i can definitely see this negatively impacting the BO reception. and unlike the Matrix, negative/mixed reviews will have an affect, irregardless of how the fans feel.

boxofficemojo is predicting $18mil for X2 this weekend and $135 for TMR. i think they are overestimating X2- TMR could be real close. yet i still have to think no matter how many records TMR shatters this weekend, its final total is only going to be around $25-40 mil more than X2, with no real...

when i went to reloaded today, i ducked into the 12 o'clock showing of X2. i only saw one person in the seats. FWIW, they were showing Reloaded on 4 screens and my theater for the 1 o'clock show was only about 1/3 full at most.

recently read another big spoiler for The Hulk. it's character not action or effects related, and if true, i feel more certain than ever that Hulk will have been the big story of the summer come Sept. the spoiler itself may or may not pan out (i believe its true since so many copies of the...

the problem here is (and i hope its not a problem), that Fox pony'd up 30% more for the sequels budget- while in the intervening 3 years, the dvd had time to grow the fan base beyond the die-hards. and this is the biggest part of the way i am crunching this- the film is actually GOOD . it...

just won't happen. no how...no way. i wish this had been a barn burner, but in the end (box office at least), it will only be a mild success. i have to wonder what this will bode for the budgets of future sequels. is Fox going to be tempted to cut corners more since the franchise has...

part of it, i'm sure, was that Spidey is just much more iconic. you have almost 40 years of cartoons, tv series, "rock" albums, etc. everybody and their grandmother has heard of spider-man. despite a 90's cartoon, X-men is still quite a fringe property (although if they keep making films this...

i agree. i was going to wait until next weekend to go back and see it, since i would have the theater mostly to myself :), but i might just go today or tomorrow. i'll probably pay one more time, and then see it one last time with the ticket that came with the dvd. all the reviews i've...

X2 will probably drop by a little over 60% this weekend. the opening weekend #s were the die hard fans, just like the first time around. X-men 1 made a little over 1/3 of its money in the first weekend. irregardless of the fact that the dvd created a slightly larger fanbase, and the fact the...
