Wow, just saw it Saturday at the Landmark (1:50pm showing). I'd only see prior version of BR on home video, so seeing on the big screen for the first time was just plain eye-opening. I've been holding out on the the whole Blu-Ray/HD DVD thing but I may need to vote with my wallet one way or the...
I'd actually be more interested in another filmmaker taking another crack at adapting Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep to the screen. That's one novel where you could get 10 directors working on it and get ten very different movies.
Doesn't look that way, does it?
I figure the discounted price on the 5-discer will be about $55 (MSRP - 30%). I can hack that, but I actually like the cover art on the four-disc set better. Decisions, decisions.
So who's going to be in L.A. on opening night of the theatrical run?
I've only heard about the four "official" cuts being on the DVD: Theatrical, European theatrical, 1992 Director's Cut and Final Cut.
In various discussion boards, I've seen the workprints discussed as speculation but nothing official.
I guess we won't know for certain until the official announcement, but it would make no commercial sense to release only part of the set on HD DVD or Blu-ray. This is Warners we're talking about. They don't tend to do anything that stupid. I think it's pretty safe to say that the HD-DVD...
Release date is unknown. First they have to release the all-new "Final Cut" to the theaters next spring, so the box set won't appear probably until next fall.
Seriously, this may be the release that pushes me over the edge to buy an HD display and a Blu-Ray/HD DVD player.
"Don't worry about the college fund, son. There are some fine community colleges in the area." :D
The Abyss - The ending actually makes sense now.
Aliens - Ripley's character motivations are better explained.
Kingdom of Heaven - Fox's butchery of Ridley's vision has apparently been corrected. Like The Abyss, the film finally makes sense.
My Dream BR SE would include
Disc 1: Theatrical version
Disc 2: 1992 version
Disc 3: A new director's cut
Disc 4: Extras
+ a paperback copy of "Future Noir"
Hopefully that isn't left over in their system from the long-cancelled special edition from several years ago.
Of course, this could just be a two-disker of the existing "Director's" cut.
