Frank, Interesting. Now I suppose the question for me is, does the Pioneer Elite VSX-49TXi apply bass management to the analog inputs. I think it may. If it does, do I then not need to set the speakers to -10db?

Frank, Yes, that is correct. The only unknown is whether you need to set your speakers at -10db or whether you receiver will automatically compensate for the difference. I have yet to test that myself. Currently, I am using the exact player-side settings you described.
