In a 8-team playoff, it's just just 7 games, but 3 weeks of games that's the major logistical nightmare, plus, those 2 extra weeks run into the NFL playoff season.

Logistically speaking, football is just much more of a pain to put on a good show than something like the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Plus the time frame involved (a week vs. 1-2 days in between games). The NCAA basketball tournament model just doesn't port over well to the football...

Going with 4 teams, not 8 in a "mini-playoff", you make it so only 2 teams need to play one extra game. Plus, the economics of having a team's fans follow their team from one bowl to the next is revenue-defeating one as far as the chamber of commerce of the towns that are hosting the bowl games...

Miami's Brock Berlin threw some really bad ducks that enabled VT to score rather easily, and that put Miami in a huge hole, and then the Miami coaches bench Berlin in the 3rd quarter (after showing in the UF game that he could come back from adversity earlier in that game).

Soooo... anyone surpised at the thrashing of Virginia Tech by West Virginia (13 point underdog) last night?

GT might very well finish around .500 this year (with UNC, Virginia, Wake Forest, Maryland and Georgia left on the schedule - 3 of those games are winnable), which is pretty amazing given they are going with a true freshman, Reggie Ball, with plenty of poise and game.
