I have a friend who'd never seen 'Superman II', and had only seen the original many, many years ago. I invited him over to my first screening of the Donner cut the other night. I told him a little about the background of the film beforehand, and warned him some of the visuals weren't...

Having long followed the sad, convoluted history of this film, and after absorbing all the early reactions, I have to say that by the time the end credits rolled on this version, I was astounded. As others have expressed, I liked 'Superman II' a lot when I was a kid, but as an adult came to see...

Based on the clips so far, the music is a mix of recylced Williams recordings from #1, and some Ken Thorne adaptations for the released version of #2. The credits on the back cover of the disc seem to bear this out..."Music by John Williams / Additional music by Ken Thorne" or something to that...

Regarding the second scene in the diner... ...if memory serves, with a couple of trims it could become a sort of "alternate reality" version of the first encounter, where Clark shows up solo and just beats the jerk down. Perhaps a little mean-spirited, but...eh...guy had it coming. :)

No, Lex Luthor quotes Lois' article as "The planet Krypton exploded in 1948. It took him three years to reach earth..." So little Superman arrives in Smallville in 1951. He builds the Fortress of Solitude at age 18 in 1966. He's in there for twelve years, and it's...yup, 1978!

This quandry once puzzled me as well, especially since it's established later in the movie that Krypton exploded in 1948! However, what Jor-El actually says is, "By now you have reached your 18th year, as it is measured on Earth. By that reckoning, I have been dead for many thousands of YOUR...

I'd agree with many of the points that Greg has made here. However, I think it should also be noted that everybody's milage with a comic adaptation varies because, moreso than most genres for some reason, a lot of it depends on your subjective baggage. I love the original Chris Reeve...

Looking again at that Donner II artwork...and I actually think it's a slipcover. They don't show it in an actual case, as they do all the other films. I have a feeling that the artwork inside might be more in-line with the rest of the series' designs, as evidenced by that trailer somebody...

Alright, I held back judgement on the Superman artwork...wasn't great, but also wasn't the worst I've seen. But the Supergirl cover sure is. Good GOD does that suck! Poor Helen Slater...first she was IN Supergirl, and now she has to look like THAT on the DVD...

Although it's tough to tell from little streaming video clips, to me the effects look more-or-less like the other blue-screen effects shots from Superman I or II...not entirely convincing, but they get the point across. As others have mentioned above, I think the mentality behind this...

I think the best solution would be to just spot any re-cut of the film with the existing John Williams recordings for #1. Since so much of the current version of 'II' is just re-arranged cues from the original anyway, a skilled music editor could probably use ProTools to assemble a workable...
