Fortunately, West Side Story has better odds of being fixed and released on a 4K/UHD than Robert Wise’s other Best Picture winner, in that it was a United Artist film and not out from 20th Century-Fox/Disney. Or, at least, one would hope this that this is the case.
True. But, then again, so was Shakespeare.
IMHO, the most intriguing aspect of this remake will be the Tony Kushner script.
What newer conversations and insights will he bring forth to themes already established?
Rest assured, for Mr. Kushner knows exactly what's a stake here;
as he knows and...
Well, pop it back in and chapter search to "Look to the Rainbow" and "When the Idle Poor Become the Idle Rich".
With the luck of the blarney, I'll be able to move with as much style and grace as he, when I hit the age of 69.
Gosh, come to think of it, I would wish the same just for today...
Ouch....and ouch.:lol:
Ah, well, I guess these two films come down to personal tastes. Albeit, not seamlessly perfect, I felt that both of these Coppola's films brought forth many great moments of song, imagery and dance. Heck, I even purchased both of these soundtracks in the good old days of...
If Steven Spielberg's version of West Side Story does well, then one has to wonder if a re-make of yet another Robert Wise musical would soon be at hand. I can see it now, Francis Ford Coppola presents "A Postulant Now". Sorry, I couldn't resist.:rolleyes:
Still, one less Barber is "a very good start"; which is sort of like that punch line from the joke that asks, "What do you call a 100 lawyers at the bottom of the sea"?
Was it not a miracle that Gary Barber was finally removed from his own MGM fortress? Or that of the second wave of restorations and BDs we so enjoyed within "Spartacus", "Lawrence of Arabia" and "My Fair Lady"? It ain't over till its over.
A very strong vision has entered my mind's eye and ear. I'm sitting at a theater and a trailer fades in with a powerful music swell and a deep-voiced narrator that speaks the following: "Robert A. Harris, Grover Crisp and Sony Pictures proudly presents "The Alamo". Now you can experience this...
Hmmm-m-m-m...do you think we've possibly got enough HTF members here to collectively buy the MGM catalogue; lock, stock and barrel?
What dreams may come.:)
