They couldn’t do screenings due to the sd effects that were rendered for the dc.
In addition they didn’t restore the film transfer until they did the original Blu-ray several years after the dc.

Sounds like the cost of the motion picture may be holding up the 4K discs. I believe this article is very positive and that paramount is working on a 4K Star Trek set.

cool way to watch it. I still prefer the directors cut for watching it. I will put the theatrical Blu Ray in at times too. Interesting that the original audio is not included on the blu ray. Just the 7.1 mix.
I love the directors cut and I like the Audubon on the finished cut better as well.

we need that directors cut approved by wise. His intention was that it would be the version shown from 2000 on.

I was watching the directors cut dvd last night. Started the extras which I haven’t seen in years. It was cool to see some of the phase II footage. I wish they would release all of it.
It also would be great to have more outtakes and test footage from the motion picture.

It’s my most watched trek film. Actually the directors cut dvd. I have the blu ray of the theatrical but I choose the dvd as it is more polished and has the final sound mix too.

If the next feature film ever gets made it would make the most sense for a new 4K UHd blu ray set of the films.
We do know that wrath of khan was given a full 4K mastering. All of the other films are unknown.
It’s so sad how secretive it has become without the home video...
