    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Luckily I do not really see many members here who want everything to be perfect - I guess they must have left the forum ;) As far as waiting for releases for much longer the format was launched more than 14 years ago. Most of us who got in early have already waited more than a decade for...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

The Big Fisherman is a very good looking movie - maybe Disney would licence it out as I cannot see themselves doing anything with it.

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

A company shouldn't do a sale when it isn't sustainable. If the sale prices are too low and people catch up with it a vicious circle is started like it may have been the case with Twilight Time if indeed so many people waited for those sales. Like it or not but many people feel like suckers...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Very true, at some point retailers will want to move those discs or charge for storing them. Many factors that come into play here but as there are quite a few specialty lables now all over the world some companies seem to have figured it out for now.

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

It looks like this may restrict your choice of movies on disc! I can understand where you are coming from but that seems a bit excessive if you want to be able to still buy physical media in the future. I would strongly doubt that for example Universal would like to see a large percentage of...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

I have understood it perfectly well but this is not a black and white world where people either pay 5$ or buy in the first two weeks after a release - there are usually many many weeks of sales between the bargain bin and the first weeks after a release. As for people not buying immediately...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Understandable but on the other hand many people do not want to be the suckers who pay a lot more than people who wait a bit. It would help if fluctuations in price wouldn't be that drastic. Apart from that if the price is right I do not see how a sale after 4 weeks would be less valuable than...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Oh, I thought that going forward future releases of older titles wouldn't have the original logos. If they keep them I don't have a problem with Disney releasing new movies under the 20th Century brand, I have an issue with no physical releases of Fox catalog titles on Blu-ray and UHD though. I...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Not sure if this has been confirmed? Does that mean anything will change for catalog titles? If that isn't the case I would not care one way or another.

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Obviously there are people who think that Disney could have done better with Fox which would not be that difficult. For starters they could have kept the name - the studio was called Fox not 20th Century last I discussed their catalog - and kept releasing catalog titles on disc. Maybe you do not...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Yes studios have invested heavily in their catalog and I do not hope that anybody will deny that. Despite that if you would do a rundown of the number of titles a studio holds and the ones that are available on DVD and Blu-ray or as a DCP you would see that these numbers do not look very good...

    Universal lays off restoration unit?

Yeah, like when Howard Hughes bought RKO - oh wait... Kidding aside it is rather unfortunate that billionaires generally seem to be desinterested in older movies in dire need of some TLC. As for buying a whole studio I would say that with the going prices there are not that many billionaires...
