My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

There is a variety of ways to zoom out (crop) the picture on modern systems for those who are into that kind of thing but there is no way to regain what has been cut off so I am happy that Warner gave us the full width.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I think it accomplishes what it set out to be. It looks nicer and more contemporary. I still would prefer the reddish / brownish original version although it has a faded reddish look, almost like an Eastman print from that time. Maybe it used to look different when Grimm was released.

Just in case you are not aware these are the three panel cinerama titles: This Is Cinerama Cinerama Holiday Seven Wonders of The World Search For Paradise South Seas Adventure Windjammer The Wonderful World of The Brothers Grimm The Best of Cinerama How The West was Won Cinerama’s Russian...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

With the orange around the small pictures in the middle it looks a lot better than the cover that Warner used. In any case if the cover does its part in driving sales for the disc then I am all for it even though I would have preferred the original.

That is a very cool screen!

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Bad taste or trying to appeal to modern audiences? As it is Warner Archive probably the latter. Not sure that will work but it certainly is not making me happy.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

A great movie experience and dinner afterwards sounds like a win-win to me!

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I mostly like that Criterion are doing their own thing but it would be nice if they stopped at the cover art. With that being said the cover art for the Grimm Blu-ray does not really qualify as the original artwork for me - they even changed the color of the dragon! Not that this will prevent...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Thanks for the explanation. As you also produced a 4K DCP I am doubtful that there will be much interest to go back to that 6k master but it is good to know that it's there! And I assume that the 4K DCP will be made available for theatrical exhibition so that more of us will be able to catch a...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Fully agree although I had a feeling that there were also requests for last minute changes. Obviously at some point such a release will be finished and wrapped up and revisiting it multiple times to cater to requests and wishes of people on internet forums is out of the question. This release...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

We do not get to pick and choose, especially not for such a project. From what I recall the original data is still there if somebody gets the greenlight for another release in the future. Until then it is what it is and from what I can see most buyers will be very happy with this release.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I think that the cap below shows slightly better colors and there is also a bit more picture information on the sides? So not sure if upgrading from the LD will be really worth it.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Yery happy to see the flat trailer - this one should look very nice on a curved screen! I hope I will be able to watch it in 4k at a film festival, that will be even better than watching the Blu-ray.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Thanks for your post, I think it puts into perspective what you have accomplished within the financial constraints that you had to work with. I am sure you are not at liberty to discuss the budget but I am certain it was nowhere close to what was spent on HTWWW back then despite Grimm being the...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

This has been offered for comparison of the color correction so it was not deliberately chosen by Paul. And yes, one should always stick to identical frames but somehow whoever posted the comparison obviously thought it was not important to do so. Certainly there is nothing to be seen that...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Well not me, caps can be taken in ways that make a movie look worse than it is and also better than it is, I have seen both. Luckily I am sure that Grimm will be good enough for a purchase and once I made that decision I do not really care very much about what others say about picture quality :)

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I am happy to hear that and really look forward to this one. While I know that there are opticals in there I have NEVER seen the movie so watching it on Blu-ray will be a very good first viewing!

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I am pretty sure the Blu-ray will not look like this but there is indeed more texture on the left than on the right which is strange if it was the same bitrate on both. And not to rain on anybody's parade but for me the other Cinerama releases except for How The West Was Won have been on the...

I like how WWOTBG went from "it will never happen" to "please do also release it on UHD" By the way I second that request :D

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

The thread title could be changed to reflect that it is scheduled to be released on Blu-ray in 2021 - if that is fine with the thread starter of course.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I made a conscious decision about 10 years ago to only watch cinerama movies in real cinerama presentations or in some kind of digital format that would allow for the kind of quality I saw with How The West Was Won on Blu-ray. I made that decision after I saw a 70mm BlowUp of a 35mm composite...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

As with film it gets ridiculous imo if you go back from digital to analog. What's the point if you cannot even stay analog for the whole process - once you go digital you better also stay digital.
  25. OliverK

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Yep, film definitely looks different than digital - i Hope they will manage to come closer.
  26. OliverK

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Only film really looks like film. And very good film projected very well looks fantastic. Not that one can witness that very often... From what I have seen in 70mm we will pronbably need to have 8k to make digital look more like 70mm film, at least at viewing distances of 1 screen width and...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

I guess there are two possible reasons for their release policy: 1. The titles they pick are expected to sell well 2. The titles reflect their taste in movies Both reasons I would find puzzling as I happen to agree that their 80s and 90s stuff is not that great but what do I know about what...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

That's the better choice, I think this comes out to approximately 2:1 or 2.1:1 aspect ratio? I love the option to have plenty of lens memory presets in the top end Epson HT projectors and to also be able to label them.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

When I express that it would be nice to also have a non-smilebox version although I do not even need it I would not exactly call that bitching, nor is it bitching when Thomas T expresses interest in interviews that may be relatively easy to come by if the actors involved are asked in a kind and...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

How do you watch the smilebox versions, do you cut off a bit top and button or do you project less wide? But yes, different strokes for different folks. This is also why I am asking for two versions as I understand that the smileboy version is very popular. No interested in pushing one version...
