SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

South Pacific would probably need some work but Fox already has 4k versions of these large format muscials that would mainly need a proper HDR grading and some would argue additional color timing here and there (not going into that discussion): The Sound of Music Oklahoma! Dr. Dolittle Hello...

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

The filters were done in camera and they did not shoot filtered and unfiltered as I think Shamroy had suggested. He was right and Joshua Logan was wrong as it looked quite bad and the damage was done and could not be reversed contrary to what Shamroy had been told. As for The Sound of Music...

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

I do not see the point of having an inferior HD version on Disney + when it looks fantastic on Blu-ray. Disney could show 4k version instead and that might be an improvement if properly done.

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

I would strongly prefer to have it with 12 Bit and 2020 color space but without HDR. But I do not think that this is a realistic goal as studios will try to get as many sales as they can and HDR is their biggest sales pitch. I would love to be proven wrong or even to get the solution that I have...

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

Glad to hear that. If that is the last we will see of 70 mm they better try to perfectionize the process.

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

filmouts - you have to like them as it keeps the film stock production and the 70 mm projectors going... I take it that you also own the Blu-ray, could you see differences in color timing and was the sound more detailed?

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

Ah, OK thanks for clarifying that. I do not think that The Sound of Music looks that bad but it could use some regrading and work on the audio. Not as much regarding as other but that would be a futile discussion as it would clog up every other thread when we compare the wrongs in one transfer...

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

While I have less than favorable opinions about the grading of The King and I and Hello Dolly! I prefer to keep them in their respective threads and as it looks as if Fox has changed the grading for the DCP version maybe it is a good time to post again in one of the threads for The King and I...

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

Three of the best looking 60ies roadshow productions are Mutiny on the Bounty, Fall of the Roman Empire and Cheyenne Autumn. Two have been released as inacceptable or at least very soft looking Blu-rays and the third one not at all.

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

Not a fan of these filmouts to 70mm either - if you go digital you may as well stay digital. Oh well, if it keeps all kind of 70mm equipment going I will be fine with that but I will always try to see the real deal instead of these pixel/film hybrids.

SOUND OF MUSIC 4K restoration and 70mm reissue???

Same here. I would think that they could go back to the raw 8k files and do a new grading - IF they kept them. No idea also what they kept from the audio but that might also be redone without having to go back to photochemical elements.
