Its only February and it appears we already have a prime canidate for worst DVD of the year? I was really looking forward to this release. Looks like I'l be waiting for the round 3 release. In fact, if those screen grabs are even close to being accurate I wouldn't even want to rent it! Very...
I am a little confused then.

Of the eight different frames from the film (not including the one used as an example of the subtitles), four of them (frames 1,5,7,8) have multiple comparative screenshots, but none of the comparative shots...
Gary,
Any chance of an in-depth comparison between Warner's 2005 R1 2-Disc Special Edition of King Kong, Montparnasse's 2005 French R2 2-Disc Collector's Edition, and Universal's 2001 UK R2 edition?
Was her head that round? :)
The image from the CE does appear to have been cropped and then stretched horizontally. If so, we are looking at a huge misstep by Warner.
What zealous expertise abut the image did I express? Come on now. It was a single short paragraph response to another similar observation. I think you've blown this up way out of proportion, and again strikes me as a severe negative reaction to even a hint, mind you only a hint of criticism that...
I agree with Mike's observations. In fact, in every single one of those screen shots you can see plenty of evidence of lost detail in the Collector's Edition. While the original transfer is hardly remarkable, from what I see in those shots it is clearly superior - which is why it is puzzling to...
Gary,
I am extremely surprised by those observations regarding the PQ between the Image and Universal editions of DI.
I have both editions and to me, the transfer in the Universal edition suffers greatly from over-filtering and is missing much of the detail that can be seen in the Image...
Here is another idea. Maybe its best not to read one article about one film from one studio and jump to the conclusion - "Its not just a lack of attention on the Eclectic titles by the studios - but a concious decision to alter the quality (negatively) in Region 1. FOTR/TT would prove that."...
I'm surprised Disney didn't send you a screener back in January. Considering the quality of your reviews I will gladly send you my copy. Send me an email with your mailing address and I'll try and get it out to you today.
