i hope that was due to an authoring error and that the actual restoration doesn’t look like that. I’m hoping for a new 4K disc that’s taken care of all the errors on that disc. One can hope.
And I’m looking forward to seeing what the North by Northwest disc will look like. Why are you so good...
That’s a good price Robert! I didn’t get on ordering this set earlier. So I’ll go with GRUV and I can wait the extra time it takes them to ship. Maybe I can still get the 20% off. :)
I was just looking at the volume 3 box set on Amazon and I was surprised it’s listed at $81.99 while GRUV is selling it at $54.99. Even though I have a Prime membership, this feels like adding shipping cost to receive it the next day. :)
I was just checking on the release of the third 4K set that includes The Man Who Knew Too Much coming out on October 31st. I was surprised it’s listed at $81 on Amazon. I checked GRUV and it’s at $54 there. I’m sure Amazon will revise that.
I think you already saw post 18 in this thread about volume 3. Perhaps it’s not officially announced yet. :)

I’ve been making movie viewing choices recently based on the degrees of separation and through connections, so to speak.
I had watched the Alien 4K UHD 2 weeks ago, first time seeing it in 4K. Looks great. ( I ended up watching Aliens and Prometheus blu rays afterwards too). But this weekend...
Here’s a link to the post I made when I got the replacement disc, it shows the numbers on the disc for your reference if you get the set and want to check if the disc is the new disc with correct audio...
I just did a search for GRUV. I never heard of that before, looks like an on-line store for media?
And I didn’t know the titles in the second volume are being offered individually.
I have that disc. I’ve listened to it many times. I found one on eBay, the book Feature Film that is, and took a chance the disc would still be in there. I did ask The seller. I’m really glad I found it, it’s good to have in the Vertigo sound track collection.
I still go back to the actual...
This re-dubbing of the radio announcers audio for the alternate ending had me curious. According to the Wikipedia page, the original radio announcer was Dave McElhatton. He’s actually a real TV news anchor in San Francisco and was on KPIX Channel 5, I remember watching him as a kid. He retired...
Hey Philip, for sure I was lucky to get this new display! It’s been great so far as I revisit and rediscover my favorite films and TV shows. Its been a very long time coming as I waited till the right display and the timing was right.
Joel, I re-watched Vertigo last night. I get into these...
I finally watched the new 4K Vertigo on my new OLED last night. I’m watching via an Oppo 205 on a calibrated Sony A90J OLED. I did not experience any problem with the disc freezing, it played fine.
I thought there was a definite sense the image looks a bit darker, but as I wondered from my post...
Doug, that a cool story. You are referring to the Brocklebank Apartments. I must seen that as a kid a few times, but not recently.
The Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge is partly gated off, so you cannot walk up to the edge where Madeline jumps in the bay. It was gated off after 9/11...
Hey Ben, I’m a Bay Area native too. That reelsf site is great, I’ve been referring to it for several years. :). I particularly like his entry for Bullitt.
A few years ago I took a road trip down to San Juan Batista. It was pretty cool to see how little it’s changed since the film. And I went...
Guys, I watched The Birds 4K blu ray last night as I watched the next title from the 4K Hitchcock set.
My disc played flawlessly with no freezing or pixelation, so that was great. I know The Birds well enough as I find the back projection and optical effects usually are obvious. And they still...
Thanks Neil, I did a little reading and I’m seeing that was the reason. I was expecting to see some kind of ability to adjust it like the Dolby Vision control on the Sony.
Edit: I checked the specs of the Frankenstein 4K blu ray and I see that is HDR10 as well. So perhaps Universal only does...
Robert, Thanks! I thought it had to have HDR applied. I’ll take another look at it as maybe I didn’t see the indication on my set. The way the image looked, it looked like it did!
Hey guys, I upgraded my display to a 4K OLED in October. So now I can finally watch the discs in this set. When I played Vertigo last year via my 4K capable player to my old plasma, the colors looked darker in the segments I sampled. So I felt I’m just not going to get a good viewing experience...
That’s good news Malcolm! Glad you got your discs. Travis I’d try again. I think the pandemic has really made this situation a lot worse then it would have been to get replacements.
Sorry to hear you guys are still waiting for replacement discs.
It took some time for my replacement disc to arrive. I still would not give up and keep trying.
I’ve been meaning to do this since the replacement discs have been going out. I checked the numbers on the discs to see if the replacement disc might have different numbers from the ones in the original set with the incorrect mono track.
I just edited this post as I got the numbers wrong, here...
