Hey Dave, good luck finding a bicycle! My road bike goes back to 2010 but I still fits and I was still riding it up till the pandemic hit. Getting a good bike fit will be important I found, you’ll be comfortable and will want to ride. If you have aches after the ride it’s not good. I used to...

Hmm, your post had me curious so I checked my workouts on the iPhone. When I rode out on the roads, I was averaging 150bpm and higher. On the indoor trainer, I’m averaging 120bpm, or a bit higher. Thats loafing! I knew I wasn’t working quite as hard, but that’s a good reminder to look at the...

Hey Carlo, for sure, it’s about staying active and keeping the body moving! That’s great you’re going out on your rides. I’ve been unwilling to go on the bike route. I drove by it the other day and a long section of it is on a raised area along the SF Bay. They closed the lane that is along that...

Hey Carlo, just checking in. I saw some of your posts on the Covid 19 thread. Cool you’re playing guitar. As I mentioned there, I’ve stopped all outside cycling since late February and I’ve set up my trainer with one of my old bicycles at home and I’m pushing myself for 30 minutes a day...

Hey Carlo, thanks for the cycling kit options. Good points about fit! That’s the part I’m not sure how to get right as I don’t feel I know what my size is. I’m with you on the race fit, not there yet. I’ll check out Competitive Cycling. Today I did two things today I should not have. While I’m...

Thanks Carlo! Hey, nothing wrong with having those bikes you have too! I can appreciate that you can get something different from each one. That is impressive that you can shave 4 mph difference between the gravel and aero bike. Also interesting that your aero bike and lighter road is so similar...

Hey Carlo, I didn’t reply to your message yet. I’ve been thinking about it. Yes, I think if I did do a custom build bike with the Oltre XR4 and Campagnolo complements, it would be a nice bike that I’d likely be happy for a long time. I don’t mean to say I keep bikes for a decade, it was just...

Hey Carlo- Thanks for the advise. I’ll keep it all in mind. My thinking is I tend to keep something a long time, the Tarmac I’ve ridden will be 10 years this summer. So I’m Thinking about time to go for the super dream bike. But I’m a one bike kind of guy. I don’t think I’d want to invest in...

Carlo, I have been doing some reading and youtube viewings and also called a local bike shop about a new bike I’ve been looking at. I’m learning more about aero bikes verse road. The bike frame I’m looking at is well regarded as not only a fast aero bike, but good all around. Which made me...

YouTube recommended a cool video today of a dream bike build-up. I didn’t think about hydraulic brakes as an option so it was interesting to see one installed and it looks like the shifters are electronic. I’d wondered about buying components and doing a custom build. If you have a free 15...

Usually the worst parts of getting back on the bike is the sit bones pressing against tissues between the saddle. That takes a few rides to get my sit bone area acclimated again. :) Hope you get a few miles in today. Nice you get to bike to work everyday.

I took the bike out for a 12 mile ride yesterday. I knew it would be a little tough, but after about 2 miles my legs started to warm up and loosen up. My last ride was August 30th, so I expected it to be a bit painful on the last few miles and it was. :)

Sounds like BMW who was charging owners an $80 fee a year to get Apple Car Play enabled while no other car maker was charging for it! BMW has recently stopped this practice and did the right thing.

Thanks for reminding me about activation fees. That seems odd. I didn’t see reference to that for the add-on meters. I’ll keep it in mind. Considering the cost, the pedals I’ve seen so far are in the $800 range and add on a head unit we are taking about $1000 to $1200.00 I’m sure. That’s not...

I accidentally came across a review of power meters on a YouTube channel called GCNtech, a subsidiary to Global Cycling Network. I had never seen any of their videos before. It was interesting to see the reviews of the Powertap pedals, Powertap chainring and Powertap wheel hub. It made better...

Thanks Carlo! Wow, I missed your last post. Another bike joined your others? That’s a cool looking bike, yes, the blue color and the shape of the tubes. And great news about your last doctor’s visit! Congrats. I wish I had more time. I need to do what you’re doing. I have not gone to the doctor...

Carlo- Thought you'd be amused, I finally cleaned up my Specialized Tarmac. It's been a little personal joke to see how dusty the bike would get. It's been about 4 or 5 years since I last cleaned the bike. I'd never let my car get this dirty. One thing I should consider is a bike stand which...

Ha, ha, I was at the Apple Store yesterday because I was running an errand and the Apple Store was in the mall I went to. I was considering the iPhone 11. But I’m holding off. Last year we had the wild fires north of the Bay Area, so I didn’t ride then. The air was really bad, so yeah, I saw...

Hey Carlo, thanks a lot for the well wishes. Basically, there is only 24 hours in a day and in recent weeks, there’s been 25 hours of things I need to do a day, so some things had to give. Hey Carlo, sorry I’ve been really busy with life issues so I haven’t been as active on the thread. I haven’t been able to ride the last couple of weeks. Thanks for the info on the Tucson ride. I didn’t mean to dismiss the system as I’m sure it’s a great system. Agreed that one needs to try it out. And I would like to give it a try some time. You’re obviously fully taking advantage of it. I think I have actually been under braking and I did shift down a gear or two at the same time on...

Wow, I ended up in the weeds reading your post! I’m sure there will and are benefits to the electronic shifting, but one of the things that I had reservations about is the battery running out and not being able to shift. I guess from what you posted there is no option to manually shift after the...

It seems a matter of preference how you wrap. I think I’ve always gone from the center outward. That way the tape can be wrapped around to start it and the beginning piece has tape wrapped over to secure it, then at the outside end, the end cap secures that end. Agreed you can have fun with the...

Cool, wrapping the tape can take a little practice. Nice job! The tape on my bars are still the original, but the area along the top at the brake hoods are very worn out. :). I’ve recently started to wear gloves. Though for most of my riding years was bare hands. The reason I started to wear...

My ride yesterday morning was a pretty good one, I was actually faster because the wind wasn’t as strong yet. Though my active caloric numbers was lower then the rides where there is wind. I was thinking about what you said in an earlier post Carlo. I have been riding for a long time and on my current bike for almost 10 years now! That is hard to believe. I’ve also realized that I’ve been so old school too not keeping up with the latest tech. :) So with all this time on one bike...

It’s like HT gear! My plasma blew the power supply last year and I was resigned to upgrade to 4K OLED, but I’m so glad I was able to get the plasma repaired. I wanted to keep it going as it was still producing a great image. So by the time I’m ready for OLED, it should be even better! You’re...

Thanks Carlo. I prefer the newer designs too when the tubes are all integrated smoothly into one form. That orange frame you showed is obviously a visual reminder of the steel frames and lugs days. When the early Kestrel bikes came out, those were really cool for the smooth frames. My...
