I've been listening to Marco Beltrami's score for The Thing prequel (in prep for my viewing tonight,) as well as Ennio Morricone's score for the 1982 The Thing, and the re-recording of that score (produced by Alan Howarth,) released by Buysoundtrax a year to two ago. Good, good stuff.

I had this CD sitting in my Amazon cart (saved for later) since hearing the viola virtuoso on NPR. It is a fascinating listen. Highly recommended for its haunting, ethereal viola brilliance and vocals on several tracks to match.

Fog Tropes (track 1) is about as eerie as music can get, but a few tracks down, track 8, On the Nature of Daylight is pure string melancholy - wonderful.
Battlestar Galactica Season 4 2-disc set. Bear McCreary's score for this excellent show is among the finest collection of score material for any medium. Raw, visceral, bombastic, elegant - all round some genuinely remarkable music.
