Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

Hi John. what post are you referring to? Forgive me if it's been asked before, but can you tell us a bit about your past Cinerama experiences in Australia? Did you ever get to Mr. Mitchell's back yard?

if anyone has the patience to page back a bit here, some time ago I posted a link to a video of the Brothers Grimm theme being played on the Lawrence Welk show. Anna won, anna too... (cue the bubbles!) Update: Oh, that's what Dick was talking about. Nevermind.

    1) me, too. 2) they were whistling it all the way to the mens room, and most of the time in the mens room... I think most of these folks knew the tune before they got there. ; )

The dome is kept MUCH darker than any of the rooms in the main complex, and MUCH MUCH darker than it was before the renovation. If you look at pictures of the pre-renovation days, the ring around the ceiling had bigger light openings about 2-3 times the size of the current ones. What was a...

Unless it's a sellout they don't care. I've found that numerous times there. Grimm was quite full the first show and you could barely find any ushers in the auditorium, they were all behind the concession where the money was coming in. And it IS so dark and they dress to match the walls, so...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

While the acting in Cinerama Holiday was understandably and acceptably dated and quaint, In The Picture made it look like Citizen Kane. Quelle fromages! This to me was like a 1950s rural smalltown fifth grade school play on a big screen. When the "actors" began to talk I looked at the...

I would go there more often were they not so pricey. One thing I do like is that the screens are most if not all side-masked, not top masked, so e widescreen movie will be wider than a flat one. Though I won't pay to sit in their 4 smallest rooms in the front end. The ones in the back are...

I too have worked in a variety of functions at both legit and movie theatres over several decades including, by the way, The Cinerama Dome. Believe it or not, I have handled a crowded theatre before. There is nothing so unique or special about this place that time honored proven techniques for...

Agreed. All they had to do to consider the heat is move the ropes up to the auditorium entrance, allowing people to get in and use the facilities, cool off and buy more stuff while they do whatever (I didn't notice they cleaned up much in between shows, anyway, I stepped over debris at all 3...

And yet people jump on me when I express a low opinion of ArcLight. When I arrived last night and was checked in at the door (Again everyone was taking pictures of that nice new poster) i showed the guy I had a second ticket for the next movie. "You want to scan them both?" No, I was told, I...

I don't think Hans Christian Anderson is a classic either - strikes me more as a TV movie and that's on Blu Ray so go figure. Least Hackett's accent was consistent. I have had forty years to live with the character voices between the album and the videos so those don't bother me. Greg, what...

Second Grimm screening fairly uneventful. After initial panel alignment and slight tweaking, picture onscreen throughout without a hitch. The sound, however, dropped out about 5-10 minutes in. Ran silent for several minutes (from walking through town to flower vendor selling Rumplestiltskin...

I appreciate your and Tim's enthusiasm. From your mouths to Warner and TCM's ears! I'm just way too used to hearing people p--s on this picture so am less optimistic. Personally I could see this one several times in real Cinerama, but could not sit through TIC or West again in a theatre...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

i had a nice talk with someone much younger than me who held this movie in a special regard, and he was thinking the same thing about wanting to have a copy of Grimm on DVD. The best legit thing that came up was buying the LD and making one's own personal copy of it, which I believe is legal...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

Boy, sure I wish/hope you were/are right. I've considered the appeal of those TV shows, yet seen Cinerama fans and insiders scoff and shoot that idea down again and again. I wasn't kidding when I said they treat this film like the bastard blacksheep of Cinerama. Even the venerable Marty Hart...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

I have edited it about a dozen times so there was probably something new or different every time you read it. My latest addition there is wondering what would have caused the burn. I like Russ Tamblyn. I've had contact with performers in every degree of fame, and I think it's the most fun to...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

I haven't wanted to sit in the front of a movie theatre since I was a kid. I changed my preference to the last row to get unobstructed view and eliminate kicking the back of my seat. I am not a fan of a movie being "up in my face" so we agree there. I agree for a live show that's much different.

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

Toward the end of the film I found myself wondering if anyone in the audience was aware that Mr. Tamblyn played more than one role in the film. Maybe that swings the record back in his direction, having done three roles in two C3 movies. I didn't think he was really being negative, he's...

I've made some updates and corrections to the screening story (#517). It was posted in stages while I was still writing it in case some folks were waiting to read it, so if you haven't read it lately, you haven't read it all.

Only one I know like that is the big one on the Paramount lot. Spent a lot of time there. Hopefully you get that this is by far my preference. MOST of the ones I've seen are this way, this is definitely the current trend, which I think you know I hate. Exactly. Preceded by commercials even...

The show begins on the sidewalk. The thin side boards on the far ends of the Dome marquee usually display what's at the Dome, while the other movies playing in the plex are reduced to inch high letters on a lit LED board in the old boxoffice windows. You just know Pacific has been aching to...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

Since the Cinerati regard and treat Grimm as CInerama's bastard blacksheep, it was gratifying to see the film get some love today. There were long breakdowns and new damage to the print, but while it was on screen it was wonderful. People enjoyed it. Even people who didn't grow up with it or...

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

I just got that you said top or side masking didn't matter to you. to me if wider ends up being smaller than the regular size then it's letterbox, like TV. Wider should be bigger. Speaking of which, I have just returned from seeing Grimm in CInerama.

Smileboxed THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM -- Will it ever make it to Bluray?

If you prefer 2.40 then top masking would be the last thing you want, as the 2.40 would be SMALLER than 1.85, therefore defeating the purpose and giving you letterbox. Only place I've seem a workable compromise is the Paramount Theatre on the studio lot, where they chose a screen shape that...
