My chief complaint about watching TMP on home video has always been, in one form or another, that the shots of Vger simply weren't as interesting because the detail, color and dynamic range simply wasn't there. That they went on to long was how I usually voiced my complaint, but after finally...
I got my BDs today. For what it's worth, here is a comparison frame from Search for Spock.

This reminds me of something Nick Meyer said about the man vacuuming in WOK. He wanted to make a point that dust didn't stop accumulating on things in the 23rd century. He even said he wanted Shatner to ignore the cleaning man as he should be common, but Shatner wasn't having it. This man in TMP...
I only have BD, but got the 4K to send a message. I am not above editing together parts from both BD's of TMP to make a version that is most pleasing to my eye on the TV I have. So if the edges bother me I might stick with the original BD for those shots but go with the new one for the rest of...
The problem with taking it out is 1) it would cost money; and 2) some fans would complain. For better or worse, that's the way the scene has been for nearly 42 years. If they tamper with it, some fans, maybe even myself, might cry foul.
The question is whether Robert Wise would have taken it...
I just got a delivery update for Sept 12.
Some good news: My WOK soundtrack was in my hot little hands today. I have now bought this soundtrack 5 times: Vinly, cassette, partial release CD, full-length CD, and now this one. The fifth and final time I bought this soundtrack was worth every...
The reason I think the flyby works in TMP is because Kirk only ever had one real love: the Enterprise. It's a love scene to me--not just for the fans, but it's important to the movie and to the character of James Kirk. On opening night I remember hearing someone in front of me say, "Can you...
The Goldsmith score cannot be overestimated in terms of why the sequence is not, IMHO, too long at all. I remember being in the theater the first time I saw it the sequence and hearing the score and in that moment just being swept away like few other moments in my cinematic history. The dry dock...
For me the current Blu Ray of TMP is not very well done. The color is uneven, and flickers a lot, especially in the effects shots. I'm happy with Wrath of Khan. So the BD upgrades I plan to get are TMP, Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home. I would think the WOK director's edition, corrected...
Is it just me or am I the only one who thinks ST V and VI are inferior to the first four? V is obviously bad; VI has plot holes you could fly a star ship through.
I'm happy with the discs I already have for V and VI. I'm thrilled the set is only for I-IV.
