Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

This "philosophy" was a pivotal catalyst IN Anakin ultimately justifying his greedy choice (Probably another reason Lucas felt the need to emphasize it). Basically, the moment Anakin sees Mace decide to do what he knows is considered un-Jedi-like (killing an unarmed man), all bets are off in...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Lucas has tendency to make sure certain themes are CLEARLY spelled out in the dialogue (READ: unsubtle). I think he does it for the benefit of the kids. It definitely leads to clunky dialogue. :D

As much as I love the opera scene (it's a SW classic - like a dark version of Obi-Wan telling Luke about the Jedi, Empire and the FORCE), my favorite Mcdiarmid moments come in the second seduction scene. When he reveals who he is.... Love it.

Free country, Chuck. :D I love James Whale's Frankenstein films, but to modern eyes they have many cinematic moments/performances percieved as pure camp (particularly in the great BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN). Heck, Ernest Thesiger's Dr. Pretorius is in the pantheon of great/weird camp...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

A full fury force of anger would have made him look cool. I think Lucas wanted to avoid that. Quibble all you like regarding the execution of that scene (the Frankenstein homage is layed on pretty thick), but what you describe comes across like another iconic original trilogy power moment from...

Yeah, Portman's contribution to the strong emotionality of the last hour is underrated. You're going to kill him, aren't you? Good stuff. :emoji_thumbsup:

As mentioned in the software thread, SITH also cleaned up in merchandising revenue. http://washingtontimes.com/business/...1753-6644r.htm Pretty impressive. ;)

Lucas' speech at the People's Choice didn't do his technical crew any favors. Like a generic 70s film. ;) See, that was the hook. Luke IS the audience. Stuck in an everyday reality pace. Until boom! HYPERSPACE - at which point, the film get's progressively faster and faster paced...

Alot folks talk about the Ian/Hayden scenes being Hayden's best work in the film, and even arguably the best acted of the saga. That they raised his game, etc... I would say the same about the Ewan ones. I hold that his scenes with Hayden in the second act are some of the best acted in all...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

I think Qui-Gon's theme is one of those underrated pieces in the saga. I like how it starts off heroic and energetic during the Maul fight in the desert, only to become melancholy during the introduction of Anakin to Obi-Wan. Then later still, it takes on a noble and sad quality during his death...

Yeah, that moment get's to me more and more on repeat viewings. I really grooved to Ewan's performance the last time I watched the flick, and that scene was one of his many standouts (Still nothing beats YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE ;) ). Obi-Wan's noble decency plays beautifully as a pointed...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Before I ever saw a prequel, I was very aware of the break between Luke and his masters in ROTJ. It was pivotal that Luke did something Obi-Wan and Yoda could not teach him to do in JEDI's 3rd act. So it didn't surprise me that right from EP1's opening scene, Lucas used the Qui-Gon character to...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

That's really simplifying things. Of course, seeing the events of the film from an omnipresent view can allow you to do that, but what culminated in 'order 66' was a long time in coming and planning. It was wicked plotting on Sidious' part. The scenario the Jedi found themselves in during that...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

To change gears..... Anyone else think the key line in RotS is Basically, this helped ensure that the traumatic events which led to Anakin's emotional demons, were not going to be a factor in Luke. It allowed 'the son' - in his moment of truth - to have the emotional intelligence to...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Just wanted to add that from my experience, the right and left have an equal tendency to "deal in absolutes". I do not believe that line was ABSOLUTELY meant to be percieved as an attack on right wing adminstrations like the Bush whitehouse - or religious-minded folks. In fact, I have quite...

Oh, but it would be percieved as a slump because boxoffice pundits would still be mentioning the fact that almost every summer weekend total has been down compared to last year. So it's not just about an 'anomaly' giving 2004's numbers a head start going into the summer. This is about more than...

SITH should finish between 382-85 million. It's still making more than AOTC on a weekly basis -- and that accumulated another 6 million before IMAX. Those dollar theaters slowly add up. ;)

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Yeah, it's arguably the best acted scene in the whole saga. I'd put it up against some of Yoda's choice moments in ESB, Alec Guinness in ANH, etc... Ian's portrayal of evil is subversion of institutions from the inside. He's using half-truths and human weakness to manipulate. It's diabolical...

SITH has basically 3 distinct acts -- with completely different tones and dynamics (It's almost like a trilogy within a trilogy! ;) ) EP3's 3rd act is the most emotional and darkly sustained piece of narrative in the whole saga. It's the only time we have a clearly pronounced evil within the...
