My wife doesn't mind me buying all the disks, but she does not like it when I overflow the shelves. A couple of years ago, I saw some custom media shelving while browsing Houzz.com that I lust over. Working it out, you could get ~5000 disks into 10 linear feet of wall space...
I too grew up in SoCal. Our local pizza parlor was a Strawhat Pizza place that also had the endless movie loops going. For me, this would have been late 60's early '70's. I recall Chaplin and Keystone Cops - plus, weirdly, early 40's Mummy movies, played w/o sound.
Ditto. I have a ridiculous number of blind buys. A small burst of enthusiasm about a title from members here is generally enough to get me to buy it. I will be eligible to retire in a couple of years. My plan is to file the movies by year and then watch them in historical order, perhaps...

It was an English Literature class. While it may sound demoralising, the two movies stuck with me, so the teacher must have done something right.
The same teacher showed us Citizen Kane to much poorer results. The class took on a mob mentality for that one. An early scene provoked...
My first exposure to A Man for All Seasons was also in high school. Our teacher showed us Beckett and A Man for All Seasons and then had us write a paper about how the fates of the characters showed the different relationship of the church to the monarchy over time. I have no recollection of...
You all are making me want to pull out the cavalry trilogy again. I'm one who prefers She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. I've seen it many times and always enjoy the wonderful character moments, particularly John Wayne's visits with his wife. It's been a long time since I watched the other two, so...
I just watched Umbrellas of Cherbourg for the first time earlier this week. I enjoyed it immensely. It is amazing how closely La La Land echoes its tone and themes, although I felt Umbrellas earned its payoff better than La La Land.
