Jake: I'm not sure if you took off the top of the unit before trying the compressed air, but you might give that a go.
Other than that, if you look at this other Oppo thread, you can read the details of my business transaction with Oppo and my 203 (which really just needed a major cleaning)...
Thanks, Willy. GREAT info. I think that's my best bet. The only local electronics reair shop I ever trusted is long out of business. And, of course, its doubtful they would have been an authorized Oppo shop. I wonder if such a thing exists? No matter. I guess I'll shoot them an e-mail and...
Uh oh.
My Oppo 203 has stopped reading CDs.
It plays 4k discs, Blu-rays, DVDs and SACDs just fine.
But, now, anytime I insert a CD, I just get a "No Disc" message after a long, failed loading process.
Finished the film by watching the Blu-ray. It played fine.
I've never seen anything like that Cinavia message before. A little unsettling. Made me feel guilty about something which I didn't do (except stupidly watch the DVD in a combo pack when I shoulda been watching the Blu-ray).
A DVD it is. And that's the disc that gave me the issue. The Blu is in the package. It was on the left-hand side of the case and I just pulled the disc from the right-hand side without thinking.
Can I do a review which makes note that the video on the DVD looks pretty good?!?
I'll...
Thx, guys. I guess I'll have to haul it back to the store where I got it. Shouldn't be a problem as they had two or three other used copies sitting there.
Can someone help me with this?
I was watching a recently purchased Blu-ray disc of American Assassin this afternoon...when, at the 1:16:30 mark the sound muted on its own and an onscreen warning appeared:
A rudimentary Google search reveals this is some kind of copy-protection that is to...
Reminds me of the time I opened up a Beta VCR of mine when it started making an internal noise.
It turned out a Post-It note was stuck to the bottom of a tape when I inserted it into the player. So the note got impaled on the spindle onto which the tape would drop and the Post-It note was...
SACD is one of the very reasons I went with an Oppo player, Brian. The 203, though. Not the 205. The 203 was expensive enough!
I wanted to have a single disc player in my system. At one point, I had a Blu player, a DVD/SACD player and a DVD rRecorder all acting as sources in my HT. Now...
And then there's the US Postal Service/UPS/FedEx/Pony Express (or whomever delivers said documents). They might not arrive until sometime next week, actually.
And watch out for the Sanity Clause...
Man:
When Oppo announced their new line of UHD players, I immediately started looking to buy a used 103. I figured there would be tons flooding the market as everyone rushed to buy the newest and shiniest. Wrong! These units hold their resale value so well, the prices of the used 103s were...
Thanks, Doug. I don't know why I have pushed back against getting a Roku (or Chromecast or whatever). i guess its likely a simple case of not being familiar with them.
My Panasonic plasma--the only device I have which allows for streaming--has never gotten any updates for its streaming...
IIRC, there was a fair amount of grumbling when this thread began that the 203 didn't have any "smart" apps built in to allow for streaming via the unit. But I also seem to recall some members speculating that they figured Oppo would be adding such a thing in a firmware upgrade down the road...
