RAMBO is going to be 7.1 on BD, and EX on DVD.
Also, here is an interview on Dolby's website where Christopher Boyes, who designed the sound for KING KONG, flat out says it's EX.
Dolby - Interview with Christopher Boyes, supervising sound editor on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
The ES track on ET was matrixed. In other words, all DTS mixes for this movie would be ES.
Also, someone on another forum spotted a list of movies which are currently being mixed in 7.1 for future BD release:
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
The Golden Compass
Money Talks...
For RUSH HOUR, this is from The Digital Bits on 4/3:
"And New Line has released details of their forthcoming Rush Hour: Special Edition and Rush Hour 2: Special Edition (due on 5/22 - SRP $14.97 each). Rush Hour will include audio commentary by director Brett Ratner, isolated score with...
Thanks, Troy. Here's a few more:
Hairspray (2007)
King of New York
Pan's Labyrinth
Rush Hour
Rush Hour 3
Shoot 'Em Up
30 Days of Night
3:10 to Yuma (2007)
War
Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
And if anything, there's even more evidence now than before that King Kong, Munich, and Sky...
The director's cut of HOLLOW MAN is coming to Blu-ray. It's EX.
Actually, with the 8-channel SDDS theatrically, the movie is one of only five films to be mixed in 8.1 channels, the other four being STAR WARS: EPISODE I -- THE PHANTOM MENACE, THE PERFECT STORM, HARRY POTTER AND THE...
I think it's a safe bet that the Ultimate Editions of those two movies have their EX tracks. There's nothing to suggest that they don't. And yes, if the Dolby track is EX, then so is the DTS.
LA VIE EN ROSE and EAGLE VS. SHARK are both EX.
Also, since Troy's been MIA for over 5 months, I thought it might be a good idea to post the list I've been keeping of EX movies. Most of this is based on the list that Troy has compiled, just with titles added when I've heard of them, and I...
I wouldn't necessarily call it better. But it's definitely different. The way it was before was my favorite thing about the movie. But the new version is designed to be a lot less on the nose. In that way, it's more fitting with the style of the overall movie, although the original acted as...
Oops! I missed that. Still, you should see the director's cut. It's fascinating. And, not to ruin anything, but the sound mix in the climax is substantially different. It's actually Liman's favorite change in the movie.
Yeah, I think that list is pretty good. It has T2 on there, which is really all that matters.
One movie from recent years which I didn't see on there is MR. & MRS. SMITH. If you haven't seen it, check out the director's cut. It has a really great mix.
I just wanted to add some support to my argument that theatrical EX movies are also EX on DVD.
This week, I was fortunate enough to meet an engineer at Dolby who was heavily involved with the development of Dolby Digital back in the day, and has since worked on many movies as the "Dolby Stereo...
I just saw this somewhere else. I'm not convinced, but I'll be handling a print of it myself in a couple days, so I'll let you know. It is in 8-channel SDDS, though.
It looks like ULTIMATE AVENGERS, ULTIMATE AVENGERS II, and WAITING... are the first three movies to be released on Blu-ray in 7.1! The Avengers movies are out now, and WAITING... will be out in July.
