I remember watching news specials back in the eighties (during the Reagan era) -- I think it was ABC news, on a "special report" on why Asians are so successful in America. I don't remember much about that report, but I'd guess that this meme was spread very quickly because of it.

Hey interesting thread! New immigrants are almost always bad drivers. If your particular city is popular among a certain immigration group, they will be the bad ones. Also, Asian students that have just immigrated will do great in the math and science courses, especially in high school...
