The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

I already got the original UK Blu-ray of Flight of the Navigator, so I can wait for a 4K UHD disc release. I'm glad they are keeping the alternate endings because they feel more like actual endings than what the release cut had. They could have edited the mutually exclusive parts together and...

If they had been made in the 1960s, they likely would have been shuffled off to the Wonderful World of Color by that point. How much wear and tear can a mainstream Hollywood film made in 1995 have accumulated by this point? Its negatives/preprint elements would likely only get taken out to make...

I agree with you in principle but I fear Disney thinks that low sales of a pan and scan disc means there wasn't interest in the movie. They don't take into account people who didn't buy a title they would have bought had it been presented in a non-outdated transfer.

Summer Magic was 16x9 anamorphic widescreen when it was an in-store DVD release in the 2000s “There’s Magic in the Memories” campaign that was all over the place in terms of transfer quality. I don’t recall it ever getting a laserdisc, and some of the others you mentioned did get releases there...

I'm surprised the non-animated Sherman brothers musicals made for Disney don't get more attention, too. Robert B. Sherman's favorite song, "On the Front Porch," was a Summer Magic song. That got an anamorphic DVD which neither Millionaire nor The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band got...

I agree, but it's still better than getting premature or false leads that don't come to fruition. That's the way it is with a lot of parks projects, too. That's just how Disney rolls.

My avatar suggests otherwise about Disney "saving everything." They may yet find more Crockett footage in color than they found in 2001, but that was based on what they could find then. Best case scenario, they're in a box somewhere in the vault mislabeled, perhaps with some other show's...

I honestly don't remember. About a couple of minutes at most. I do remember there was a disclaimer to expect some shots that weren't in color, but that this was the only way to reconstruct the original broadcast versions. All the effort expended on colorizing stuff that was never meant to be in...

The TV edit of Davy Crockett had some footage that, at the time of mastering and release, was only known to exist in B&W. That may be why they went with the movies instead.

They may be waiting for year 3 to dig deeper into the vaults. Even The Disney Channel wasn't a 24-hour service at first, and they saved the heavy hitters for later; Pinocchio and Cinderella aired there in the late 1980s after their video debuts. That's not entirely true. Only in the United...

Darlene Gillespie filed a lawsuit in the 1990s, but they must have settled that if the Treasures tin and mass-market compilation could come out. I never read that Lonnie Burr autobiography, but I did read Annette's, and she doesn't talk about royalties. The breakup between ABC and Disney was...

Next year is the 40th anniversary of the first in-house Disney videos, but the actual department was founded in 1978 so technically its 40th was last year. Still, it would be nice to see the company do something to commemorate it considering how integral it has been to their financial...

It was, but when Eisner took over they switched to tape post-production. I guess they must have been smart enough to save the negatives; either that or it was released theatrically overseas, which I have no evidence of and I doubt since Thanksgiving is a US holiday with a Canadian equivalent in...

For that to happen, the material would have to actually be on Disney+ first. As for the market "dying," if so that is not exactly what I would call a natural death. Remastered Blu-rays of Monty Python's Flying Circus and The Jetsons suggest not so much death as leveling out to normal. The music...

I don't doubt that. My guess is that Disney thinks they can make more money selling it twice. The other TV movie is from the 1980s*, so just to be technically able to make a Blu-ray out of that is an achievement in itself. *They had me at Jason Bateman. They don't make this freakin' boycott...

I'm guessing it will be the version released in theaters. Did anyone supply box art or a running time? Why did they wait 10 years to release it to theaters when the Davy Crockett movies came out right after their TV airing? Was that because the Dr. Syn shows had already aired in color on NBC...

So it's there, they had no intention of leaving it off, which is good. But they made it difficult to access the way most people who watch movies on disc watch them: on the disc itself. How many venues actually played that overture initially? IIRC it wasn't on any home video issue until Anchor Bay got the rights to that along with the other titles they licensed from the studio. I heard for years from people at Disney that there were those there at the time who wanted to take the Sherman Brothers down a peg despite their recent hits, so without Walt around to protect them or the film, this was how they did it. They didn't name names, though. This became a recurring...
