Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Whatever size Snoke actually is, I assumed the hologram was intentionally grandiose. If he turns out to be much smaller in reality, it's not as though we haven't already had a two-foot tall character who just happened to be one of the most, if not the most, powerful being in the saga.

They laughed in my showing, too, but I just assumed it was because of his huge ears.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

One huge advantage TFA had over the prequels was its ability to place familiar references to the original trilogy throughout the movie, even though some of them may have seemed a bit "forced" (no pun intended). I loved seeing the holographic chess board pieces, the downed Imperial cruisers...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

I wouldn't want to see Chewbacca killed, but it would have been appropriate (and a bit funny!) to see graying on some of Chewie's fur.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

That's exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen, and thankfully it didn't!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

That's the best part -- only 1½ years between movies! It sure beats the three years (or worse, 16 years!) between the previous installments.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

That's how I've been explaining it to friends. I've never been both entertained by and angry with a movie like this before. I guess there are just certain characters that have become so beloved that I just can't imagine them ever dying.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Speaking of masks... How did Kylo Ren come to be in possession of Darth Vader's burned and melted mask/helmet? Last we saw it, the mask was burned, along with Vader, on a funeral pyre by Luke Sywalker on the planet Endor. The mask had been worn by a grandfather he never met, since Ren would...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

TFA without the Fox intro was as awkward as Casino Royale was without the 007 gun barrel intro. They must have figured that opening TFA with Disney's magic castle logo would have been, well, just...weird.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Did anyone else miss the 20th Century Fox intro with its classic fanfare theme, which, until now, has been intrinsically linked to the start of each Star Wars movie?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

I couldn't figure out what that was all about either. It was one of several scenes that I figured was either due to poor editing or something intentional for us to ponder over until it is explained in the next movie.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

The only times during TFA where the score got an emotional response from me was whenever a familiar theme was utilized. Other than perhaps Rey's theme, I found all the new music to be generic and feeling like "filler". It's the first time in a Star Wars movie where the score didn't appear to be...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

That was probably my biggest problem with the movie. When Han is killed, we get a shot of Leia "sensing" the loss, and a painful roar from Chewie before he starts shooting at Ren. Later, when Rey and Chewie deboard the Falcon, Chewie walks right past Leia without so much as an acknowledgement of...
