DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Robert, that's actually what I thought as well. It's developed like a Nightmare film, with Nightmare production values and a Nightmare plot... and then Friday level acting. Somewhere, somehow, I'm thinking they could have balanced it out somewhere else down the line.

Porfirio, the original Shannon/Swift draft is online, before David Goyer came into to cut down its length (it ran around 130 pages, I believe). True, it was Yu's idea, but nothing in the films has said Freddy couldn't do that in the real world. Nightmare 1 definitely makes it look like he's...

FVJ is a Nightmare sequel, namely because it's generally a continuation of the NOES series plotline.

Ted White, from The Final Chapter, refuses to do anything connected with the series, as he hated working on the film, moreso because he felt the other actors and actresses were treated terribly than because of his own experience.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

At 19, I pretty obviously wasn't around yet, but I've heard that the film basically advertised itself as an origin story that exlains why Myers can't be killed. Again, informative post. Where did you find the video information? That's interesting. As for alternate JTM titles, I always liked...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

I really don't like Halloween II. As a film in and of itself, it's nothing more than average. It's pretty obviously a cash-in from Carpenter. And the fact that it's a rip-off of Friday the 13th (I really can't stand rip-offs) just makes me dislike it even more. As a film, it's a...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Actually, judging from what I remember from Cinemax, they reach New York about 87 minutes into the 100 minute film.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

The problem with sequels is repetition. Is Friday the 13th, Part 2 much different from Friday the 13th? Is Halloween 5 some major shift from Halloween 4? The only series to generally change things up with each film is Nightmare On Elm Street, and even then things were hurt by a villain who grew...

She simply wanted too much money. The offered her a part in Jason X as well (during the VR sequence), but when her demands were too high they changed the scene. For Freddy Vs. Jason, since Mrs. Voorhees has a definite impact on the plot, they simply chose to recast.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Well, Scream came out when I was 11-years-old. I saw the film and liked it. However, it didn't really have any bearing on what I thought of, say, Friday the 13th. I didn't watch the film saying, "Don't do that! Don't do that!" I was mostly just bored. Long camera shots that add up to nothing and...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

I'd like to be clear and say I was referring to the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6. That hacked-up, gored-up mess of a theatrical film will never receive a recommendation from me. And Halloween 5 is even worse. Count me against you guys on New Nightmare, though. I love the film. The plot...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Very nice post, Ryan. Halloween did eventually grow ludicrous, mainly due to inept filmmakers who didn't know how to handle a plot. The Curse of Michael Myers could've been something special. Yes, it explained what Michael was, but it was dripping atmosphere and definitely a step above average...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Nice review. If I have any extra cash, I might pick it up. I generally find Jason's films boring, but there's two or three that I like to sit through. I just don't think that, in terms of characters or story (ironic considering the slasher genre, eh?), Friday the 13th compares to Halloween or A...
