DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Nice I bought Jason Goes to Hell about a year ago for 10 bucks, and added Jason X to my DDD order for 9. I hate the movie, but...hey, I've gotta have a complete collection

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Jeez, I'm weak. I pulled the trigger and used a 10% off DDD coupon to get it for 50 and change shipped. I'll just consider it an early birthday present to myself

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

My Best Buy has been sold out for a couple of days. I saw 2 copies last week. The local Meijer (mid-western grocery/department store chain) has had 3 copies in stock for a week or so. It's still to pricey for me, but I might consider buying it during DDDs next 20% off sale.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

I disagree. Maybe a couple of the Friday films had worse acting, but in general the acting was much, much better. I also think that acting is important in these films. I'm not asking for De Niro in Godfather 2, but it's important for the actors to play the scares right. Freddy vs. Jason...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

I don't know about it being a cash-in. He co-wrote the screenplay, but it wasn't his film. And I've heard him mention that he wanted nothing to do with the sequels. Also, I can see it as using some of what F13 created (as Scott mentioned, more gore + higher body count), but I wouldn't call it...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Amen. I'm a fan of Halloween 4, but Halloween 2 is leaps and bounds over all the Halloween sequels. The atmosphere of the hospital is fantastic. Hmmm..reading my post, it sounds like I'm turning this into the Halloween discussion thread :) ...so, um, Friday the 13th is good too ;)

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

Subtlety and tone are the two words I'd use to differentiate between Halloween (the original) and the F13 series. Carpenter is able to use framing, camera movement, and sound better than anything else I can think of. Halloween is a true masterpiece, not only of the horror genre, but of film in...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan

I think 4 is the best of the series, but I'm a closet fan of 3. It's not that bad :) 5's good too, though a lot of fans hate that one because of the fake Jason.

Great review, Michael. I won't be buying the set (no job, no money :)), but I will be renting the bonus disc.
