Updated with: Taking Lives - Predictable, boring, schlock. The only good aspects are stolen from better films. **/***** The Machinist - Not the most original story, but great execution. Very unsettling atmosphere, and a fantastic performance from Bale. ****/*****
Updated with Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers (****½/*****). By no means a perfect film, but the characters were interesting and engaging enough to get a big recommendation from me. The film presents too many ideas to manage efficiently, and the use of voice-over narration at the beginning but...
Updated with a few films over the last few days. Resident Evil: Apocalypse - **½/***** Not as awful as I was expecting, but that's not saying much. I did think it was better than PwsA's other flick AvP. Man was that Nemesis make-up cheesy, though. Ug. Hustle - *½/***** The crappy ESPN...
Updated with the interesting Open Water (**½/*****). Not really what I expected, which isn't to say it was bad...but I feel really split on this one. I'll have to watch it another time.
Updated with the terrific Garden State (*****/*****). I absolutely can't wait to see what's next from Zach Braff. Great writing, great direction, and great performances from Braff, Sarsgaard, and Natalie Portman. I'm sure this will be sticking around on my top ten for the year.

Updated with Collateral (****/*****). Another great entry from Mann. Sometimes a little too predictable, but the interaction between Cruise and Foxx was fantastic. This is definitely an actor's showcase film.
I went to see I, Robot expecting to hate it, but I actually thought it was pretty decent. Maybe a little too much gratuitous Will Smith, but overall a decent summer flick. (****/*****)
