If I had to guess, I think Raintree County would be far down their Elizabeth Taylor list. I could see BUtterfield 8, The Sandpiper, or The V.I.P.s coming before it. But I'm only guessing.
I believe Elizabeth saw to it that Monty was cast in Suddenly, Last Summer and I know she insisted he play her husband in Reflections in a Golden Eye. Of course, he died before filming began on it and was replaced by Marlon Brando.
If Warners can get its act together with Brothers Grimm, I think anything is possible. I suspect we may see Raintree County some day.
There have been more Elizabeth Blu-rays, of course. Father of the Bride, Suddenly Last Summer, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Reflections...
Diana Dors was the star of an Alfred Hitchcock Hour I watched a few weeks ago; she played a nightclub singer involved in some crime or other, and as I listened to her singing a couple of songs, I wondered who her voice double was. After researching, I learned to my great surprise that she was a...
I have some Warner HD streaming transfers of older movies, and what TCM broadcasts for Raintree County is as good or better than some of those transfers (Ziegfeld Follies, A Free Soul, Romeo and Juliet). They should release this transfer to iTunes/Vudu so I can clear it from my DVR.
I lost my last DVR copy I had of the film because my DVR died (it was a beautiful print of the film; the best I've ever seen). I have every intention to getting a new DVR copy when this airs this week.
Thanks for the reminder, Andy.
It is sitting on my DVR as I type this, ready for my next viewing of it. It is certainly the best I have ever seen it look on a home screen and completely blows away the laserdisc that I was using for my Raintree fix whenever it came upon me.
I finished it this evening, and it continued to impress me with its visual quality right to the very end. Never have those houses with their paneled outsides and tiled roofs been so rock solid without line twitter or aliasing.
There is NO reason Warners couldn't release this transfer at least...
I watched the first 1 3/4 hours before taking a break for my afternoon computer surf.
It's by far the best version of the movie I've ever seen. Color is richer and more saturated throughout. More importantly, however, is the steadiness and solidity of the image. No more line twitter in the...
Andy, you didn't overhype it at all. Night Watch was a very entertaining suspense film. When I saw the name Lucille Fletcher (Sorry, Wrong Number) in the credits, I knew I'd be in for a good time, and it was! Elizabeth was excellent (her climactic encounter with Billie Whitelaw will remain...
I'll definitely be watching it tomorrow afternoon, and I'll write my impressions later in the afternoon. Even more excited to see it now knowing an Elizabeth connoisseur thinks highly of it.
I wanted to record it, but I already had two series recording at the same time it was playing, and my DVR only records two programs at a time. I probably should have watched one of the shows over the air so I could record RC, but I am so used to not having to suffer through commercials unless...
From the twenty minutes or so I watched yesterday, it looked like the laserdisc to me with all of the aliasing and other visual problems typical of a standard definition image in this HDTV age. Would certainly love to see it cleaned up and remastered, but I suspect it won't happen. More's the...
The last time it was on (prior to today), I did record it and watched the whole thing. I have the laserdisc, so I can pull it out and get a Raintree County fix whenever I want one, but the color is better and there is far less aliasing on the TCM transfer.
I watched a few minutes of it. Same transfer they've been showing the last two or three times it's been on. Strong color but specks and spots are certainly present. It was also not an HD transfer.
A friend gave me the soundtrack to Raintree County for my birthday, and I can attest to its astounding quality. I really treasured the unused Bill Lee rendition of the title track (Lee was a famous Hollywood voice double for actors like John Kerr in South Pacific and Christopher Plummer in The...
