Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Do you know that they are rotting in a vault? Who knows why they won't allow another company to produce them. Maybe no one wants to? Aren't there licensing or distribution costs involved? It might be as simple as, it's not worth it for a big studio to do it, and too much for the little guy to...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Everyone would only be happy if every season sold really well. If not, then what happens with the studios finances? So much for further releases from them. It's not that I want to fully support the studios, but I think it's a bit selfish to ask a business to risk financial disater just to...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Definitely true. Unfortunately, how do you determine those 'times'? Market research (I believe) is based on trends. If you start releasing products starting with different seasons, there won't be any 'trends' to base future research on because no "standard" has been set. The studios need...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

David, I know what you're saying, but isn't there also a limit to how much research someone can do? Meaning, to get more exact numbers would mean more $$ for research. At what point does the $$ spent on research make a big difference on the fianl profit? After a certain point, it would seem...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Even though I agree that later seasons (of most shows) would be more popular, I'm sure there's some market research that shows that if you don't release a show starting from season 1, that there may be confusion or angst as to the reasoning/decision on starting with (for example) season 4, which...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Just because All in the Family was extremely more popular than Son of the Beach was on tv, does that mean it translates into the same as far as DVD sales? I would think SotB would do better (analysis wise) in the DVD market than AitF would, due to the type of consumer who buys...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Good point. That could lead to disaster. I'm sure there are a lot of other variables like that that we don't think of when we assume that the studio is 'screwing' us over. That's kind of what I mean by the studios are doing what they can for the consumer (along with the profit in mind). A lot...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

At first, I used to think that DVD was this highly superior being that no one could touch, which is true in some cases, but what I realize is, it's also just a VHS tape in metal disc form. I think you are putting too much pressure on the format. If a company wants to spend thousands in a...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Why does that matter? I'm sure with every season 1 release, the studio is planning (i.e. hoping sales are good enough) on producing a season 2, but if season 1 doesn't sell well, then why take another bad hit with season 2? Better to cut your losses. In fact, your argument makes even a better...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Of course the thinking is different than with the VHS days. A VHS only held a few hours and sold for over $20. DVD sets hold almost 3-5 times that amount and only cost slightly more than $20. I guess if you want the days of VHS, then we'd be paying for 3 episodes of a TV show for $20. Just...

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

That's probably the biggest reason for a lot of the compromises they do. "Cost of production" vs. "How many people will notice" must be a BIG deciding factor as to how far they go with a release.

Why don't some TV shows get released completely re-mastered?

Punish? Who's being punished? I doubt they are doing it on purpose. A studio doesn't stop the production of a title (i.e. the chance to make money) just to punish you. They do it because they can't make money off of it. If you can find a way to guarantee maximized profits, you'd be a...
