So more than a year later, and I believe I've figured out what was edited out of Bullwhip Griffin. I just watched the unedited version on iTunes and there is a rather prominent racial slur that comes out of the mouth of none other than young Bryan Russell! Whoops. I can definitely see why that...
I guess Disney didn’t have enough of their own classic movies to remake, so they are going to remake classics from other studios...
By the way, did any one read about the rumor from The Digital Bits that Disney+ may retool to allow adult-oriented content which would be in a separate section not...
That stands to reason. The iTunes version starts with the MGM Lion. The Disney+ version with 20th Century Fox logo. That also explains why Disney+ doesn't have the 4K version because that restoration was paid for by MGM (and possibly Criterion who licensed it from MGM).
Sorry, I just assumed everyone knew that The Small One was an animated featurette. In addition to My Dog the Thief, two other vintage TV movies have been added to the service since launch: Hacksaw, and The Boy Who Talked to Badgers, but as all three of these TV movies are unrestored and in...
Another vintage title got added to Disney+, first time in HD and widescreen (1.66:1), from 1978: The Small One. It appears to be fully restored and looks great!
I have a feeling the cuts have something to do with the mistreatment of animals as this was before the American Humane Association's involvement with films.
While that video deals only with the problems of Disney+ with regard to their skittishness with original content, my main issue with the service is how that skittishness is affecting classic movies and shows. So much is “modified for content” and I’m beginning to think that the reason they have...
Here's the thing, Josh. It was announced weeks in advance that it would be added on February 28th, and lo and behold it was. A day later it was pulled. While there's a possibility it's just a glitch or they are temporarily retooling something, I think it is more likely that something...
You know what guys? Disney+ is already pissing me off. Once my one-year subscription expires, I think I'm done. At launch they had "The Bears & I", uncut and in 4K. I noticed it disappeared from my watchlist. When I searched for it, I found it, but now with the disclaimer "edited for content"...
They are certainly in no hurry to delve into much more vintage programming. One classic TV episode: "I Captured the King of the Leprechauns", and the only other thing that is semi-vintage would be "Splash".
Probably coming back in 4K. I know Home Alone 1&2 and the The Sandlot are available in 4K on iTunes and I thought it strange that the D+ versions weren’t 4K. If Sound of Music and Mary Poppins suddenly disappear for this reason, it will be cause for celebration. :D
Apple TV has a known glitch with Atmos tracks. What I’ve observed is that all original Disney+ content doesn’t play back with Atmos, but theatrical movies DO play in Atmos. Not sure why original content Atmos tracks are somehow different than the others.
It's probably not that they left those out. Each episode of the documentary covers a very specific period of time. If those attractions were not added during the time period they are covering, they would not be discussed in that episode. I would expect some minor mention of them in the sixth and...
The movie was cut before it was ever released. The original running time was 117 minutes. The long pre-release version was reconstructed for the film’s 25th anniversary, and was released on laserdisc and DVD that way. By 2014 DIsney had changed their mind and decided that the original cut is...
The 139 minute version is mastered in HD, but just no digital cleanup. It is still available on iTunes to those who purchased it before the Blu-ray version came out.
So I actually compared Bullwhip Griffin to my DVD and the runtime is exactly the same down to the second. Also the description on Disney+ states "This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions" which is in direct contrast to the placard stating "this...
I'm talking classic live action from Walt's era. In Crawdaddy's discussion thread I made a list of titles that were missing from that promo and sure enough, none of them are on the service. https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/posts/4791739/
It does not. In fact that preview video Disney released last month that showed everything that was going to be on the service was pretty accurate. People were saying "oh that's just a sampling, there's bound to be more" There wasn't any more. Tons of classic Disney movies are nowhere to be found.
Well crap. You’re absolutely right. I just compared a section of it to what is on the Movies Anywhere app. While both are 1.66:1 widescreen, the MA version has the original “thick accent” soundtrack while D+ has the re-dubbed version. Thankfully I already own the movie. But D+ needs to add...
Ack! Just found my first disappointment with the service: Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin. The first thing you see is a placard "This film has been modified from its original version. It has been edited for content" I wonder how many more movies have this disclaimer? Most of what I've seen so...
Also nobody going to say anything about all the STAR WARS movies being in 4K HDR? Disney was keeping that secret!
Other 4K surprises include Who Framed Roger Rabbit and (I'm not joking) The Bears and I.
and... The Sword in the Stone, now in 4K HDR and not the blurry mess that was the Blu-ray.
